Swing Analysis: Dustin Johnson at the 2017 British Open

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

When watching Dustin Johnson’s swing we are usually entranced by the bizarre angle formed by his left wrist at the top of the swing and don’t really focus on the rest of what is going on. Here I look at a couple of swings from the British Open, one of which gives us a great view of his unbelievably good hip and leg action, creating massive depth and adding tilt with the right side of his pelvis while maintaining most of his knee flex (not an easy thing to do). Another swing is a nice example of a knockdown shot into a stiff wind as he flushes a 5 iron from 160 yards, demonstrating his ability to control his power and his ball flight.

Jordan Spieth Gives the World a Pitching Lesson

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This snippet of Spieth practicing his pitch shots before the final round of the British Open happened while the announcers were droning on about whatever they could fill space with. Meantime in the background Spieth was providing viewers with one of the best short game lessons (unintended of course) they could ever receive. In six shots Spieth demonstrates the two most important pitching techniques for any level of player:

TP&C: Tony Romo at the 2017 Celebrity Classic

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

It’s always nice to be able to see your swing under pressure, and when you’re Tony Romo and you’re paired with Steph Curry and Justin Timberlake in a televised event there’s a good chance you’re going to get some nice air time. Of course, this gives me a great opportunity to watch Tony perform when it counts and it gives Tony a good idea of what his tendencies are when he’s got some heat on him.

Online Students: George Lyall

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

“I am hitting pulls, fades & slices. Would like to get rid of the flip at impact and have lower hands at impact. Not sure if this is possible? Regards George” – George is very squatted and his balance is well back into his heels, which makes it quite hard to maintain posture and create space for the right arm to get in front of the chest, which is an important aspect in getting the hands more forward at impact as well as closer to the body.

Swing Analysis: Bob Charles

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

I thought it would be appropriate given that the British Open is just underway to look at the swing of former champion Bob Charles. The lefty from New Zealand won the Open in 1963 among some 75 assorted professional wins, including 6 PGA Tour and 23 Champions Tour events. What struck me most watching his swing with the driver is the perfect impact position with the shaft lined up with his right arm (leading arm) well past impact, much like you now see in players such as Jordan Speith, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka.

Swing Analysis: Kyle Stanley Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Kyle Stanley is easily one of the best ball strikers in the world. If you look at his stats over the last 5 years he is rarely out of the top 10 in strokes gaining driving and strokes gained on approach shots, and is always high up in greens in regulation. He is having a banner year and with his victory at the brutally tough TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms he moved up to 13th in the Fed Ex Cup standings.
