Online Students: Scott Sayre

Scott has a great looking swing that is well sequenced, but it runs into trouble in transition when he flexes his knees toward the ball after twisting his hips toward the target. His upper legs get so bent under him that to get his right arm in front of him his hands and arms must move well out away from his body and thus approach impact from an extremely high position. My suggestions are to set up with his balance a bit more out over the ball toward the balls of the feet, and then to create a station with shafts set up as obstacles to encourage him to change his downswing pattern.

Online Students: John Krystynak Part 4

John is having a great deal of trouble changing his takeaway, and he is not alone. Trigger mechanisms are a bitch to change and when you watch John’s swing here versus his last online lesson you can see that while he has made progress with his pivot movement his takeaway is still a big problem. I focus the slow-motion video on John’s hands as he prepares to move the club into the backswing: he grips, then lets go, then grips again just as he moves the clubhead back.

TP&C: Tony Romo Part 3

You may be aware that Tony is a stellar athlete who up to now has played golf strictly in his spare time and as a hobby. Now that he has retired as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys for the less injurious position of NFL analyst he is ready and able to put more work into his golf game and would like to become a serious amateur competitor. I met Tony in January of 2013 at the Isleworth Invitational when I was invited to join his group for a practice round on the back 9 after my 3 playing partners had retired for the day. Upon introducing myself Tony remarked that he had watched the video I had done commenting on Peter Kostis’ television comparison of Tony’s swing with that of Tom Brady.
