Wayne’s World Weekly Blog: Tiger Woods: Still a Chance?

By Wayne | blog

Just about everyone who is interested in golf wants to know if Tiger can come back. I happen to think he can, and I have a unique perspective as to what he is going through. I had my first back surgery (a single disc laminectomy, much like Tiger’s first 3 surgeries) in 1983 while I was playing the mini-tour in Florida. I had been a first team All-American at LSU in 1979 (good team that year: Corey Pavin, Fred Couples, Bob Tway, John Cook, Bobby Clampett, Gary Hallberg, Scott Watkins and myself- Mark O’Meara, Payne Stewart, Joey Sindelar and Mark Wiebe were on the 2nd team), and had turned professional a year later.

Wayne D Students Gillespie, Eure Get Through 1st Stage Web.Com Qualifying

By Wayne | blog

Both players responded to the pressure and fired nice final rounds to advance to second stage, where the pressure only increases. Making it to the final stage is a key moment in any professional’s career, and missing guarantees another year of chasing qualifiers and mini-tour events. There really is no getting around the importance of getting through second stage, and there is no pretending that it is just another tournament.

Final Report on the 2017 Senior PNC

By Wayne | blog

I learned long ago that no one wants to listen to a golfer recap a round shot by shot. I’ve been known to stop people (not my students) who start in with the commentary and say, “hold on, should I grab a cart?” However, since this is my website and part of the reason you subscribe is to see what’s on my mind when it comes to just about anything regarding the game I will give you a detailed account of my second two rounds (you can read about the 1st round in my previous blog).

At the Senior PNC: Heading into Round 2

By Wayne | blog

My one-under 71 in round 1 is the first under -par round I have shot in quite some time. My scores have been coming down in general, but I have continued to struggle with my swing, trying mostly to figure out how to play with a move that is not quite my ideal due to my physical limitations. My back has been pretty fired up due to the travel and the play, but it is not affecting my swing as much as it sometimes does. Hopefully I can keep it going, make the cut, and play all 4 rounds. That would be a nice victory for me considering my play in recent years. Even if it doesn’t turn out I feel that I am…
