Tiger Woods and the Importance of Camera Angles

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This video is not so much about Tiger’s swing (although it is still awesome) as it is about the difference camera positioning makes when viewing the same swing from different angles and comparing swings side by side as though they are the same when actually the camera angles are different.   Here we Tiger hit the same tee shot from different angles. One is the regular camera that the TV crew uses when filming the action, and the other is from the High Speed camera that the network uses to allow the commentators to do a better job on their…

Golf Dreams

By Wayne | Articles: In Golf as in Life

O.K., admit it. You’re in the midst of your morning shower, another day of work ahead of you, and there you are, eyes closed, conjuring up the sensation of that one sweet swing that flights the golf ball in the absolute optimum trajectory, arcing in toward the flag with an almost arrogant assurance, digging into the firm surface of the green with enough spin to send it recoiling back to the cup for a tap-in birdie. For you it might be the last hole of the club championship; for another, the tee shot on the water guarded par 3 where…

Lesson of the Week: Justin Duffie Part 5

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

As you may know, Justin is a great athlete (offensive tackle for the U. of MD and an AAU caliber basketball player) who tackled golf after football was done with and who spent his first few years developing a swing so technically challenged that even his athletic talent couldn’t overcome the difficulty he created at impact. He has worked as hard to change his swing as anyone I have ever worked with, and I always show his original swings side by side with the newer ones so that the obvious results are there for all to see. He still struggles…

TP&C: Len Mattiace Part 5

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

After earning exempt status on the Web.Com Tour for 2014 Lenny finished out 2013 with a near miss at the Mayacoba Classic in Mexico, qualifying just to play in the event in a 4-spotter and then making the cut with nice rounds of 69 and 68. He was poised to break into the top 10 with 7 holes to play, but a triple bogey on 12 and two more bogies coming in derailed his chances. In assessing the year Lenny would have liked to have played better, but he had a few top finishes and showed signs of generally better…

Happy Holidays 2013 from Wayne D.

By Wayne | blog

I wanted to wish all the members and other subscribers to WayneDeFrancesco.com Happy Holidays, and thank every one of you for taking the time to watch and listen to my posts. The game has played a huge roll in my life, and I find it fulfilling to be able to share my knowledge and experience with more than just the people who come to me for in person lessons. By now you should have figured out that I don’t even attempt to sugarcoat the fact that it is a difficult game, and that there are no magic methods or easy…

Swing Analysis: Dr. Cary Middlecoff

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

One of the most underrated golfers in history, Middlecoff won more PGA Tour events in the 1950’s than any other player. He effectively ended his career in 1961 having won 40 Tour events and 3 major championships (2 U.S. Opens and a Masters) in only 14 years of competing. He showed promise as a youngster, earning All-American honors twice at the University of Tennessee and the University Dental School where he graduated with a DDS degree in 1944 (thus the moniker of Dr. Cary Middlecoff) and won a Tour event as an amateur before entering into the armed service in…

Swing Analysis: Matteo Manassero

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This is a wonderful swing designed more for ball control than power, but is obviously powerful enough to have already won a few times on the European Tour at a very young age. Manassero’s swing mechanics are excellent, and as the swing unfolds you can see that most of his positions and movements are right out of the Wayne D. list of preferences. He and his coach have expressed a desire to create more distance with all the clubs (especially the driver), and it is fairly clear why he is lacking a bit in that element of his game. The…

Lesson of the Week: Joey Lane Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Joey, now a freshman at Virginia Tech, has made tremendous progress as a player during the time we have worked together. He was a late starter as a junior, and then had a big win at the Optimist World Junior in 2012. He was close to taking a gap year after high school due to being late in the recruiting mix, but a spot came open on the Tech team and the coach thought enough of Joey’s potential to give him the spot. There was talk of redshirting Joey after an injury sidelined him for a few weeks, but he…

Lesson of the Week: Zachary Turek

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

This video may give you hope, or it may annoy you to no end to watch someone who can take instruction and implement the changes almost immediately. Some people can pretty much do what they want to do, and if their swings are faulty there is a very good chance that the information they have is not good enough to produce a playable swing that impacts the ball with quality. I can never tell if a player is of this ilk until the lesson gets going and after analyzing what is happening I make suggestions and he (or she) tries…

Swing Analysis: Ian Poulter Makes Nice Changes

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Ian Poulter finished up his year quite well, battling Henrik Stenson down to the wire in the Race to Dubai. While he came up short with Stenson playing better than anyone in the world he demonstrated upgraded ball striking and an overall solid game. This was not a random occurrence, as you will see in this video where I point out the fairly major change Poulter has made in his takeaway and the resulting changes in his backswing as it progresses to left arm parallel and to the top.
