Holly Sonders and Natalie Gulbis: Swing Analysis and Member’s Poll

I knew you would want to watch this one. These are two interesting ladies in the golf business, one of whom plays the Tour (Natalie) and one who commentates (Holly), but both are known for being about the most attractive women in the game. I was able to grab Holly’s swing from TV last week at the tournament in Palm Springs, and of course Natalie’s is all over YouTube. The comparison is interesting since Natalie is the better player, having won on Tour and managing to stay out there for years with what can only be described as an odd swing. Holly’s swing is much more conventional, as are the problems we see with it, namely poor use of ground forces to engage the midsection, a better use of which would enable her to produce a much more effective strike with every club. Gulbis is a mystifying subject as her swing has not produced the results that everyone had hoped for and yet it has not changed much over a long period of time in spite working with Butch Harmon. There may be many reasons for that, and I am not privy to the inside scoop there, but it doesn’t seem like it would be such a stretch to improve her right arm position in the backswing.
Anyway, at the end of the video I ask the viewers to choose Holly or Natalie, and it can be on any basis you want it to be. Just choose one. We will keep score.

Dont think Holly too concerned that shes not on the Tour, Id be very surprised if she isnt earning more now than if she were top 50 on the LPGA money list!

I would take Natalie’s swing and if i had to choose from the two i would play from her fairway… but obviously its great look at a birdie either way… its definitely a three putt on those greens!

Both swings are putrid. Both broads are hot. I like Holly!

    ;-D. Golf Clap WD!

Thanks for the video. Overall both players look very good in all aspects, espacially Holly.
I’m not that fond of the Stack and Tilt method, but there’s an australian player who overtakes by far Nathalie and Holly regarding her natural beauty (I’m not talking about the swing here). Check out Anna Rawson. I think she might have won a tournament or two on the European Ladies tour. Whatever, she’a dream…

Hi Wayne, you could get both of these ladies I into better shape – in all positions.

  8. Ben H January 23, 2014 at 7:04 pm #

I’d take Holly everyday of the week, and twice on Sundays !!!

I noticed a bit of similarity in the head movement of Natalie and Paula Creamer. The head lowers and chases down the line after impact. Definitely not something you seen many male players, but present in two of the more prevalent female players on tour.

    But either way, great video!

I’ll take Lauren Thompson over either one of these two any day!

My advice would be to avoid the smarmy commentary and stick to strictly objective analysis — esp if you want female players to enjoy your site. Just sayin…

Wayne, I haven’t laughed this hard since we roomed together at LSU. Well done!

    Btw, Holly every day.

Hey Sal! What’s up my man? Long time no talk. Send me your email through the site so we can chat.

Kudos to the above above post. I’d have serious reservations about having a lesson being a woman ( or signing up a daughter for lessons!) – wondering if you’d be commenting on my/her clothing or body etc. Kinda creepy actually. Less of this cheap conversation and more real golf please.

Just having a bit of fun. Didn’t mean to offend anyone. My point is that I don’t get the way these women dress. I’m making fun of it because it is designed to attract attention and if you ask me is totally inappropriate for the golf course. I find it distracting and almost embarrassing, but it seems to be completely acceptable. These are public figures who represent their gender and their tour, and I don’t understand why they have to dress so scantily to play golf. I teach ladies of all ages and if anything I encourage them to button up and to dress more conservatively. If I come off in the video as some sort of leering slob I apologize.

Apology accepted for coming off as a leering slob (no apology necessary for being one) but please take back the comment about wanting these two ladies to wear more clothing. I hadn’t really noticed they had clubs in their hands until one of your other viewers mentioned it. Kinda ruined it a little.
    Q: Holly or Natalie?
    A: Yes

  15. gotdayips February 7, 2014 at 11:12 pm #

Just one point in your defense. I thought you actually show a lot of restraint with the line drawing capability.

I had a inkling you might regret this posting, Wayne. I feel for you buddy.

I wonder if we’d have the same complaints about an Adam Scott v Ricky Fowler pole?

They may be under contract and forced to wear those ridiculous outfits. just saying.
Good stuff! No problems with their outfits.
Both Holly and Natalie are great for the game of golf.
    I vote Holly.

  18. Clint February 12, 2014 at 8:22 am #

I vote Natalie simply because her swing is more effective than Holly’s. Holly’s swing is more aesthetic, but Natalie’s on tour. Holly is behind a microphone. I’m sure Golf Channel is paying well, but it’s nothing compared to what Holly would make in endorsements if she was even a mediocre tour player (see Anna Kournikova).
