Swing Analysis: Wayne D. Channeling Hogan

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Whenever I want inspiration to make my swing better I turn to the Hogan videos I’ve watched a million times. It’s amazing to me that I seem to get something new from them even after studying them for so long, but now that I feel good enough to look at my swing and actually try to practice enough to change it I can see more clearly how he was doing things and how I am not doing those things.

Swing Analysis: Graham DeLaet Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

One of the side benefits of working with a Tour player is the ability to get good video of other players on the range with a tripod and correct angles. Streels loves Graham’s swing, so when we were practicing next to him he asked if I could take some shots. Graham was hitting his driver (and hitting it quite well, which is par for the course for him as he is one of the best ball strikers on Tour), producing almost dead straight shots of medium height. The thing that sticks out about Graham’s swing when you watch it at…

Swing Analysis: Charley Hoffman

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

If you’ve been following the website for a while you probably know that I really like Charley Hoffman’s swing, even though as you will see in these shots of his driver I took at the recent Valspar Championship in Tampa that his right arm does not really move the way I prefer. That said, there is a wonderful simplicity to his body movement that could be a model for anyone, and I certainly use his swing to show people who move around too much just how nice it looks to wind up and clear the hips and shoulders the way…

Swing Analysis: Hideki Matsuyama Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This swing is producing the best ball striking numbers on the Tour today. Matsuyama is incredibly strong, and many of the things you see in his swing are different from most Tour players, and certainly different from what I would prefer to see in a golf swing. In the backswing Hideki keeps his right arm tucked into his side in the takeaway and has it almost dead straight. We have seen what a disaster that is for “normal” players (the 0 to 8 handicappers that send their swings in for analysis) as the right arm almost always looks for height…

Swing Analysis: Stewart Cink

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

One of the benefits of teaching a Tour player is that I am able to sneak videos of other Tour players with my Casio camera and tripod, and since it is me taking the vids, the angles are correct for a real Wayne D. analysis. Stewart, who famously beat Tom Watson to win the British Open in 2009, has seen his performance drop substantially since then, missing 10 of 20 cuts in and notching only 2 top 20’s in majors while not qualifying for a WGC event since 2011. When we look at the face on view of Stewart’s swing…

Swing Analysis: Russell Knox

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

It’s always a treat to get good tripod shots of a Tour player, and that’s just what we have here with Russell Knox. Russell, born in Scotland, has worked himself onto the PGA Tour through the mini-tours, the Nationwide Tour, and finally the big dance. He hasn’t won yet but was in a 4 man playoff last year at the Honda Classic.
