TP&C: Ben Silverman Part 3

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

It’s always satisfying to see any player, talented or not, take in new information and incorporate the changes to improve their swing technique. If you compare Ben’s swing now to what it was 5 months ago you will see how much work he has done to completely change his pattern from a vertical hand drop in transition to a beautiful “out” move that keeps the shaft above his right forearm in the forward swing and allows him to swing left through impact. We have pretty much changed everything at least a little, including strengthening his grip, getting the takeaway to…

TP&C: Ben Silverman Part 2

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

This video encompasses 2 ½ days of work with one of my most talented students, young (22) Canadian Ben Silverman. Ben is currently playing the NGA (formerly Hooters) tour, and is doing nicely. He has won multiple times already on a lesser mini-tour known as the Minor League Tour in South Florida, and is doing nicely on the NGA. His last tournament was a struggle as he made the cut and finished in the top 25 but was reduced to hitting sizable draws and felt incapable of effectively working the ball left to right. I was not surprised to hear…

TP&C: Len Mattiace Part 3

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

Lenny and I spent two and half days down in Jupiter January 2013 in a continuation of the work we are doing trying to get him back on the PGA Tour. Lenny missed at the finals of Q-School in November, and now will be full time on the Web.Com Tour for this year. He will be playing in the first 5 events before the reshuffle, and he would (obviously) like to get off to a good start.   My main focus with Lenny has been to concentrate on the things that will produce a better strike of the ball, mainly…

TP&C: Tony Romo Update

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

It’s been a little over a week since I worked with Tony at Isleworth, where he tried to incorporate my suggestions in the middle of the event we were playing in (despite my objections) and ended up winning the amateur side of the tournament, which was a nice accomplishment as the course was extremely challenging and being a pro-scratch had some nice amateur players in the field. He was excited to take the new swing thoughts out to Pebble Beach, where he was paired with Texas University phenom Jordan Spieth. He shot a nice 68 in the first round, helped…

TP&C: Tony Romo

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

Some time ago I did a video that focused on a Peter Kostis analysis done during a Tour event comparing the swings of Tom Brady, New England Patriots quarterback, and Tony Romo, the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. Romo had the far superior swing, but the video concentrated more on Kostis’ use of what I considered bad camera angles to comment on certain parts of their swings. So, when the rest of my foursome quit after 9 in the practice round for the Isleworth Pro-Invitational I went out onto the back 9 as a single, which lasted a hole until…

TP&C: Ben Silverman

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

I recently started working with professional Ben Silverman, a Canadian who now lives in south Florida and plays regularly on the GolfSlinger.com Tour. Ben has already shown some nice success, having recently won a two day event with a $10,000 first prize, and amassing over $50,000 in earnings this year. Ben is a talent, as you will see by his ability to change his swing in a short period of time, and is open to making his swing simpler for the long run, as he hopes eventually to try for the PGA Tour and to represent Canada at the 2016…

TP&C: Lenny Mattiace Part 2

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

Lenny and I have been working together for about a month now and I was able to get together with him again (3rd time face to face) for a day and a half down in Tampa. We played 9 holes at World Woods, and then worked on the range there for 3 hours or so, then the next day went out to TPC Tampa Bay and played a few holes again and also worked on the range for another 3-4 hours. This video is a compilation of the swings I shot during that time, and we ended up feeling good…

TP&C: Dick Mast – Shot Shaping

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

Dick Mast is now 41st on the Champions Tour money list with over $285,000, and you can see why he has had his best year ever as you watch these swings. He likes to move the ball both ways (and has a straight shot as well), so I filmed him doing one of each, and you can really see how the swing produces the shot he is picturing in his mind. The changes are subtle but definitely noticeable with the camera, and you can see the change in swing shape produce different impact alignments for each desired ball flight.  …

TP&C: Len Mattiace

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

I was surprised on Friday afternoon to see the name “Len Mattiace” in my book for an hour lesson Saturday, since most Tour players would probably call me directly first to see if I had extended time available, and probably wouldn’t schedule the lesson through the shop like a normal person would. As it turned out, Len showed up at 9:40 for his 10 am lesson, as nice and unassuming as could be. He had not been playing well for some time, and was not particularly happy with the things he was working on. He had heard my name around…

TP&C: Swing Analysis: Hallberg and Mast Both Top 11 in Canada Champions Tour Event

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

After working with both Dick and Gary last week, Dick face to face at Woodmont and Gary online, both had nice finishes in the Champions Tour event in Canada, Gary finishing 8th and winning over $50,000 and Dick finishing 11th and winning $38,000. Here I go over some of the things we have been working on in general and look at their most recent swings.
