Getting Unstuck – Online Student: Matt Shubley

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

I started playing golf competitively in grade 10, and by grade 12 I chose to play golf over hockey. I have been the number one on my school team since I was a sophomore. I had a pretty good season last season recording a scoring average of 75.6. It continued into the summer I played in some good events, and posted some decent scores however it is rare that I post very low numbers. At the end of the summer I went to see a new coach to produce some lower numbers, I saw him once and then couldn’t get back to see him before the end of the summer and got caught in between two swings. I ended up getting the club very underneath on behind me coming back. So lately I have been working on keeping the club in front of me coming back.

Picking Up Some Yardage Off The Tee: Online Students: John Lamendola Part 13

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

I use Jordan Spieth and Charl Schwartzel as examples of players who are moderate in physical size but produce tremendous clubhead speed. In both cases we see the upper body begin to back up around P5, with the left leg beginning to push up off the ground and the pelvis elevating from P6 into and past impact. In our lesson before this we focused on foot pressure in transition, and stabilizing the right foot will help this downswing action occur.

Online Students: Conner Kumpula Part 8

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

In this video lesson, I compare Connor’s swing with those of a year ago, before he injured his shoulder and couldn’t practice or play for an extended period. He has a wonderful swing (he has won a major college event and the Oregon State Amateur) but there is still room for improvement, especially in these recent swings, where his approach to impact has gotten somewhat steeper than in the past. I feel that the major difference is in the…

Online Students: Antti Kauhanen

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Antti exhibits the classic symptoms of using one swing for both balls on the ground and balls up on a tee (tee shots, not par-3’s). In most cases the player either hits the driver well and struggles with iron, hybrid and fairway wood contact, or can’t control the driver while compression the other shots nicely. When you see Antti’s iron swing, you will probably agree with me when I say it is excellent. He is on plane and achieves a very nice forward leaning impact with plenty of sustain past the ball. If you watch his driver swing you will find that at regular speed it looks fine, but given his account of how bad he is hitting it we know to look for some reasons why which may not be so obvious.

Online Students: John Lamendola 12

By J | Videos: Online Students

John has been a consistent online lesson taker (along with 3 face -to -face lessons) and has shown remarkable improvement in his technique and in the results he has achieved on the golf course. He has the good fortune to have a basement studio with all sorts of useful technology, which makes processing and practicing the suggestions I make over the internet much easier.

Online Students: Chuck Zellner Part 8

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Chuck, as always, provides a good summary of what he has been doing and how he is processing the information and suggestions I have given him. Chuck has the tendency to overdo things, which is better than not changing at all, and many times we must ratchet back on the things we talk about. In this video, I give Chuck 4 or 5 bits of advice to continue to hone in on the swing that he wants and will work on the course.

Online Students: Kacie Mulligan, PGA

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Kacie works for my longtime friend and student Peter Procops at his club up in New York. As you will see in the video she is very strong and athletic, and with some improved mechanics could really be a player. Pete brought her to one of his lessons down in Boca this January (2017) and since then Kacie has really made some nice improvements, but since we started with some extreme issues there is still quite a bit of work to be done.
