Brandel Theorizes on Sergio’s Bad Sunday Rounds

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

If Sergio wins the tournament, he has the greatest swing ever. If he stumbles, leave it to Brandel Chamblee to find the real reason why. In this clip you hear Brandel state absolutely that “no great player has ever re-gripped the club as the club was going back”. Of course, he sees Sergio’s thumb come off the club just prior to the takeaway and, as usual, jumps to an extreme conclusion (this is why Sergio has so many last round failures) without really closely analyzing what he is talking about. If you watch Sergio and focus on his grip it…

Chamblee on McIlroy: “Insufficient”, or Less Than Stellar Lower Body Movement

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

I happened to be flipping through channels when I caught this short piece, and when I heard Brandel ripping Rory and comparing him to Byron Nelson I knew I had another video in the can. Chamblee is mind-boggling: he takes the best players in the world, waits for them to have a bad round or a bad tournament, picks their worst shot, and does an analysis showing how poor their technique is and states that this is why they missed the cut, or lost the tournament, or hit the odd bad shot. Of course, he knows beforehand that the shot…

Kratzert Strikes Again: Seeing Things that Aren’t There

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

How hard is it to make sure that what you say about a golf swing is actually true? Well, pretty darn hard if you’re Billy Kratzert, who seems bent on saying whatever he wants to say no matter what is happening on the screen that he describing. My guess is that you will shake your head in wonder at this one, as his analysis is so blatantly wrong that it is hard to imagine that this made its way onto the internet on one of the most widely viewed golf websites in existence. It’s almost embarrassing that I can simply…

As Seen on TV: Kratzert on Woods: Head Steady? I Don’t Think So

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

I find it hard to believe that a guy who fancies himself as a golf “expert” would put such wrongheaded nonsense out for public consumption. Bill Kratzert is proving himself to right in there with Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo, Brandel Chamblee, and the rest of the bunch when he steadfastly maintains that Tiger’s head is “steady”, not moving to the right or up and down when in fact the very video he is analyzing proves him to be totally wrong. I mean, the video is playing, Kratzert is commentating, and what he is saying has nothing to do with what…

Chamblee Changes his Tune on Tiger

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

If it wasn’t obvious before, it certainly should be now: Brandel Chamblee, like the finest politicians, will say whatever fits the situation, paying no mind to anything he has said in the past. I suppose that is the nature of television. You are required to fill up space and do it in an interesting fashion in order to keep your job. If you can make it look like you are an authority and can conjure up a little controversy as well you might even become a star. Chamblee has smartly chosen Tiger Woods as the main subject for his analysis,…

Chamblee on Tiger’s Hand Path: Borrowing from a Great Source

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

There is very little original thought on display in golf instruction, and the truth is that every morsel of such originality is eventually taken by those who are looking for ideas and used for their own benefit. In some cases the ideas are paraphrased to make it seem that they weren’t borrowed, and in other cases the owner of the original thought is credited for the information, which is, of course, the more honest way to do things. There are other instances in which information is blatantly plagiarized and no credit is given, which is what I believe is on…

Sir Nick Faldo Still Seeing Things That Aren’t There

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

This video doesn’t need much explanation. Rory McIlroy is hitting an iron shot from a fairway bunker, and luckily the camera is stable so we can accurately assess any elevation change in his body by drawing a line on top of his head. In his swing analysis Faldo remarks about Rory’s “steady head” and how he “maintains his level”, but the swing itself shows otherwise. Remarkably enough, it’s not even close: McIlroy’s head drops 2-3 inches in the backswing and another 4-5 inches in the forward swing, which goes to show you that when these announcers want to see something…

Swing Analysis: Tiger at the Memorial 2012

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

So you tell me: how cool is it to hear Peter Kostis and Gary McCord talking about “compressing into the ground” during both the backswing and the forward swing? I have to think that there’s no way they are not watching my videos. I know Peter is for sure, because my head pro told me Peter was pissed at me for calling him out in a few of my previous videos. If that’s the case then I say OK, because that bit on Tiger on Sunday was the best thing Kostis has done maybe ever. My goal all along is…

As Seen On TV: Once Again TV Announcers Ignore What Is Right In Front Of Them

By Wayne | Videos: As Seen On TV and Extras

Every time Tiger plays the announcers simply have to come up with something. If he’s playing good, they’ll tell you why, and if he’s playing bad, they’ll tell you why. But how often do they actually get it right? Always seems that whenever Tiger is playing good they seem to think he’s not dipping as much.
