Playing for Money: Matt Shubley-Needing Earlier Left Forearm Supination in the Downswing

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

As usual Matt’s swing looks quite good (he is a very good player), especially since he hasn’t been able to get out and practice due to the virus, but his tendency to get the club behind his hands at P6 is still one of his main issues. Over time we have added lateral movement to transition and the forward swing and have almost eliminated his crossing the line at the top. With the club on plane and the shaft flattening in transition, Matt has to now focus on rolling the left arm down the chest by supinating the forearm earlier…

Online Lesson: David Baker-Working on Steep Approach and Flip Release

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

“I took a lesson from you in 2011. Glad you reached out with the on- line offer. I hit driver and 7 iron. My misses start right and stay right. I like it the feel of hitting a fade but struggle with my release. Lastly, I don’t feel using the ground efficiently. When I try and push off my back leg my upper body jumps ahead of the shot.”   David exhibits nice motion and fluidity and sequences his swing well. He moves the handle toward the ball starting down the way I like to see it, but it happens…

Online Lesson: Thomas Petric- Overswinging at the Top Causing Sequence and Path Issues

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Hi Wayne,   “Per our lesson from last year, I’m trying to shorten the backswing to prevent my hands from lifting at the top of the swing and the club crossing the line. I think my sequencing is still off.   Also, as you will notice in the downswing, my release is early causing inconsistent impact.   I included a couple extra videos of a SW from 90 yards and a 30 yard pitch in case you would like to see my swing from different distances and maybe find some common themes from the short shots to the long ones.”   Thomas is…

Online Lesson: Rob Palazuelos- Working on the Backswing, Hand Path, and Overall Swing Pattern

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

“Hi Wayne. I’m a big fan of your videos, and I’ve been working on my swing by myself for years now. I play semi-pro in Japan, and even joined long-drive competitions last year. I’m looking to check my head lowering, and I’d love to get the hands to start towards the ball a bit better. I think it has to do with more body rotation 45 degrees back.”   It’s probably unfair to put anyone side by side with Tommy Fleetwood but in this case it’s quite educational. Rob triggers his swing by pushing down on the grip and immediately…

Online Lesson: Brendan Howell- Looking for More Dynamic Pivot Movement

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

just wanted to see what your thoughts are. Usual things I hate are the lack of angle coming down which causes the fast over taking rate, not a lot of sustain. I like to fade the ball or very straight. The neck tilt always goes a bit to the target as well on downswing.   As you will see Brendan has a genuinely nice swing, but one which, on closer review, is a bit weak heading into the ball and at impact. Position wise there is not a lot wrong with this, but as I watch it I see a…

Jordan Spieth Pitching: Video for Tony Romo

By Wayne | PGA Professionals , Tour Players and Celebrities , Videos: Swing Analysis

Back in January of 2018 I played in the Isleworth Invitational, partnering with Tony Romo. Tony had been playing quite a bit with Jordan Spieth, and we had a great time practicing on the fabulous short game area at the club with me showing Tony some things and Tony sharing with me some of Spieth’s secrets to his amazing pitching game. I had recorded Spieth off a couple of televised events, focusing on his short game, one of which was the Hero World Challenge, also at Isleworth, where Spieth blitzed the field while shooting an incredible 26 under par (Isleworth…

Online Lesson: Peter Allen- Working on Swing Shape and Hip Depth

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

A little background is that I´m addicted to tinkering, but my progress seems to have stalled out.  The good news is that because I have tried so many swings (from Gankas to Malaska), I´m capable of making grip changes, changing my swing plane, etc. and I can still get around the course. It doesn’t really matter whose “swing” you try if you don’t diagnose your present swing and decide what it is that you need to work on to get better. Peter’s major issue is that he pulls his arms deep across him in the backswing with the club getting…

Follow-up Online Lesson: Josh Bialowans, PGA

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Josh shows great progress here in his follow-up lesson. The main idea in his first lesson was to lessen his movement off the ball with his driver and then to lessen the amount of forward movement with his upper body in transition with both the driver and the iron. Looking at the driver swing, Josh cuts down his right movement to just enough, then does a much better job of keeping his head and upper trunk from drifting forward in transition. It is easy to tell that Josh is a talented player as he overdoes the same idea with the…

Online Lesson: Justin Miller- Two Different Takeaways

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Over the winter, I evolved towards the right forearm takeaway, and played some good golf. But I’ve found it can accentuate my tendencies to have minimal wrist hinge, rolling of the left arm and getting laid off at the top, with perhaps too much bend in my right arm and the right arm getting a bit too far behind me (i.e. not in a “ready” position). I had a feeling going for several months with the right forearm takeaway, where the backswing was planeing nicely, but that has been lost and I seem to be back to those previously mentioned…

Online Lesson: Follow-up with Bill Stanford

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

If you watch this follow up video right after the first lesson with Bill (click here to view) you will see a normal lesson progression like you would get if you were taking face to face lessons once every week or two and working on the teacher’s suggestions in between. Most times the succeeding lesson will be an extension of the prior one, especially if the changes are pattern oriented or if it’s a major change in grip or posture (here it is all about posture). Bill has definitely changed his posture for the better, but his motion pattern has…
