Online Students: John Kent

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

John is the father of one of website member Mark Smith’s good friends, and Mark was nice enough to purchase an online lesson for him. John plays to an 11 handicap now at age 70, but was a 7 a few years back before undergoing serious back surgery. Some of what we see here is certainly the result of the balky back, but there are things we can do to improve the movement and give John a chance to get back some of the strokes he has lost.

Pro Tip of the Week: Think Gravity when Approaching Uneven Lies

By Wayne | Videos: Pro Tip of the Week

Most golfers have a hard time remembering what adjustments to make when they are out on the course and the ball is sitting on a hill. There are uphill lies, downhill lies, side hill lies with the ball below your feet, and side hill lies with the ball above your feet. One way to make sure you think about the things that will help you hit these shots is to consider what gravity is doing to your ability to make a normal pivot (body motion).

Lesson of the Week: Peter Procops

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

This is the latest in my ongoing sessions with Peter, a club professional from New York who visits me in Florida every winter to try to improve his game so he can be competitive in the club pro tournaments that are available to play in. Peter has real back issues, and when he found out that I had similar problems and had somewhat overcome them he was interested in hearing what I had to say. We hit it off nicely, and Pete’s swing has improved tremendously over time.

From The Vault: Swing Compilation: Hogan, Nelson and Snead- the Second Great American Triumvirate

By Wayne | Videos: From The Vault

Here are three of my favorite swings. The 2nd great American triumvirate, these guys dominated the Tour for the most part from 1934 to 1954. Nelson was the first to break out with 3 majors in the 30’s, while Hogan didn’t win a tournament at all until 1939 and won his first major in 1946. Snead spread his majors out over a 17-year period starting in 1937, while Nelson won his 5 majors in the 8 years from 1937 to 1945 and Hogan between 1946 and 1953.

Lesson of the Week: Bobby Impaglia, PGA

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Bobby is the Director of Instruction for the city of Boca Raton, and he is the reason I have a place to teach down here in sunny Florida. We met while competing on the Space Coast Mini-Tour in the early 1980’s, and we have been good friends ever since. Bobby played on the PGA Tour for a short period before turning to teaching, and he was instrumental in helping me get my first teaching job on Long Island in 1985. Bobby has had me work with him on his swing off and on throughout our relationship, and now that I am down here for an extended period he wanted to take advantage and try to remedy some chronic habits that have plagued him forever.
