Lesson of the Week: Jonathan Wolff

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

I did a good job of filming the progression of what I worked on with Jonathan so I think you will find this lesson interesting. The neat thing is how he responded to the analysis and incorporated my ideas almost immediately. Jonathan has an athletic, aggressive move but the fairly sizable lower body slide in the backswing was derailing any opportunity for him to get his upper and lower body to synch up, eventually causing him to back his head away from the ball and pull backwards at impact. As you will see as his swing progresses through the lesson…

TP&C: Ben Silverman Part 6

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

Ben has been doing nicely on the Canadian Tour with a top 20 and a top 10 in his first two events, but he missed the cut last week and sent me a few of his swings. As you will see the swing is looking great going back, but still needs work in transition and in the release. I would like to see Ben keep the cup in his wrist a bit longer in transition and get his hands working more out toward the ball so that the right arm can move more in front of his chest and his…

Swing Analysis: Aaron Baddeley

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Aaron has changed his swing dramatically since his Stack and Tilt days, going from a backswing that moved well inward and across his chest to one much more out in front of him. He is known much more for his short game and putting than for his ball striking, which has been statistically poor in relation to the rest of the Tour. A few weeks ago at the Travelers he almost put it together for a win, but a wayward drive deprived him of a chance to birdie the 18th and a tie with Kevin Streelman, who stole the title…

Swing Analysis: Martin Kaymer 2014

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

If you wanted to pick a swing to model your pivot movement after it would have to be Martin Kaymer. His body works so well that he can get away with crossing the line and dropping the hands not only straight down but actually backwards. I always try to get my students not to do this, as it usually leads to multiple problems in the downswing (the pattern has the shaft steep early in the downswing then flattening late, which causes the shaft to get stuck behind the hands, and also lends itself to having the right leg shoot out…

Pro Tip of the Week: As Seen on TV: Johnny Miller: Still Mr. “Down the Line”

By Wayne | Videos: Pro Tip of the Week

The “Pro Tip of the Week” series is short videos of things Tour players do that can benefit your game and lower your score. Tip of the Week videos are free for a limited time period. This weeks pro tip is: As Seen on TV: Johnny Miller: Still Mr. “Down the Line”.   There’s not much to say about this short video. You pretty much know what’s coming just by reading the title. We get a nice DTL view of Martin Kaymer moving in super slow motion through impact with an iron, and while the club head is arcing nicely…

Online Students: Scott Knoblach

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

This is an email Scott sent along with his swings: Hi Wayne- “I wrote you an e-mail a few weeks ago to get your thoughts on in-person lessons vs. on-line. You suggested we start on-line, so here goes! My primary goal in golf to develop the best golf swing I’m capable of producing. I’ve come to a point where I can only get so far competitively with my current technique, and frankly, I know I’m capable of much more. With your help I believe I can produce a golf swing that is much more efficient and fundamentally sound. So, I’m…

Online Students: Michael Thackray

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Mike has an excellent swing that can be helped by improving his rhythm and tempo. As we know, rhythm refers to the ratio of backswing time to forward swing time (3:1 being optimum based on studies of a large amount of great players) while tempo refers to the overall amount of time it takes to make a swing from the moment the clubhead moves away from the ball to the moment it hits the ball. Mike’s major issue in his swing is the slow unwinding of the lower body in the downswing. His left knee does not disappear behind the…

TP&C: Len Mattiace Part 6

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

If you’ve been following Lenny this year you can see just how difficult it is sometimes when you’re playing pretty good but just not putting things together. Lenny just missed another cut by a shot, shooting a poor 77 in his first round but coming back with a 32 on his second nine for a 69 the second day. We spent 3-4 hours together a week before at Lakewood (where the swings in the video were taken) and I felt like we are getting to the bottom of his ball striking inconsistencies. Lenny is a relentlessly positive guy (you really…
