Playing for Money: Kevin Johnson Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Kevin is an excellent player (two years on Tour, 6 wins on the secondary [Nationwide, Web.com] tours) but at age 48 he has kind of hit the wall and can’t seem to hit the ball as well as he used to. The first thing I noticed was that Kevin was not really using his pivot nearly enough, and we spent the first session just trying to feel what a real coil and load felt like.

Playing for Money: Kevin Johnson

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Kevin is a former Tour player (exempt status in 2002 and 2010) who has 6 Web.Com victories (or whatever that tour was called at the time he won) to his credit, which gives him status out there every year. He is 48 years old and is thinking about trying for the Champions Tour, but he has been struggling the last couple years and came to me for some help. This is our first lesson and it was only an hour…

Playing for Money: Jeremy Wells Part 5

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

It took me a while to write the copy for this one so Jeremy has already come for another lesson after this one, but the good news here is that he has been playing consistently better, making cuts and making money in the mini-tour events he has been entering. Jeremy has developed an excellent swing, but here we see some recurring tendencies that we need to get a handle on so that we don’t have to keep fixing the same things.

Playing for Money: Derek Gillespie Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Derek came back this week for another couple days and the progress was quite apparent. By the end of the second session he was swinging beautifully, and watching him strike the ball was quite impressive. He is not very big but he is powerful and the speed he produces through impact is surprising. As you will see he has an excellent swing, and I fully expect big things from him in the near future.

Playing for Money: Derek Gillespie Part 1

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Derek came to me in December feeling down about his playing prospects and hoping I could help him get back on track. He is 37 and has had some very good years on the Canadian Tour, finishing in the top few money winners back when there was no exemption offered for doing so. More recently he has struggled, and he decided to make the trip down from Toronto as sort of a last ditch effort.

Playing for Money: Jonathan Krick

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

I think after you watch this video you will agree with Jonathan that we made some significant progress during this 2 hour lesson. The changes we made in the backswing produced exceptionally good looking positions from the takeaway to the top, and although we accomplished this with a stop and go drill it still shows that Jonathan can make a great looking backswing and still hit the ball, and that when he takes it to regular speed and films it he will know just what to look for and to concentrate on to get it to look and feel the way he wants.

Playing for Money: Trevor Murphy

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Trevor is a WEB.COM player who missed his card this year and doesn’t have status. I got a chance to play 9 holes with Trevor when I was out at Whisper Rock with Kevin Streelman. Trevor is a good player that hits the ball a long way with a tendency to miss-hit a little left. I offered to take a look at his swing if he wanted and Trevor was interested so we hooked up for a lesson.

Playing for Money: Jason Gandy Part 6

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

As you have seen from previous lessons, both online and in person, Jason has a wonderful swing but tends to get off track with his backswing. In this lesson I address his tempo, which I think is too fast for him to really feel what he is doing at the start of his swing, as well as his tendency to push his left shoulder too downward also at the beginning of the takeaway.
