TP&C: Kevin Streelman Part 3

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

This one’s pretty simple: I just wanted to show you how good Kevin’s swing is looking. I compare to the first swing I saw of him on TV in 2010, and we have gotten back to the good stuff in that swing and improved it. The most noticeable difference is in the posture, which used to be much more flexed and bent over. The thing I really like about his swing now is the leg movement, which is much deeper and has way less tendency to “hump” up toward the ball in the downswing. But the beautiful thing is the…

Playing for Money: Mark Mielke

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Mark is a long-time club professional, most recently at the Mill River Club in New York, and also happens to be a long-time friend of mine. His playing record as a club professional is as good as it gets: he’s played in 5 PGA’s, 4 U.S. Opens, won the N.Y. State Open twice and the Met Open twice. He finished 28th in the Senior PGA Championship only a year and a half ago. Mark had a banner year in 2013, then ran into technique problems and hit proverbial wall in 2014, a year in which he described his overall play…

TP&C: Brad Faxon Part 3

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

I went down to Jupiter to spend a couple days with Brad at Old Palm and we got some nice work in. I have always told Brad that given his problems with the approach being high and sometimes stuck he should strive to get the club on plane at the top (less across the line) so that he can have the shaft flatten early in transition and then steepen the rest of the way down, which will give him the chance to get the right arm straighter as he approaches impact and his hands as a result passing by closer…

Playing for Money: David Holmes Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

This video pretty much speaks for itself. When you compare David’s swings from the initial online lesson to these it is easy to see the tremendous change in technique. Every now and then I meet someone with the ability to change quickly, and David is certainly one of these lucky folks. He was so happy to hear that what he was working on (and wasn’t working) was antithetical to my own views on how the swing should work that he took to my suggestions immediately and not only made the changes but starting hitting the ball way better right away.…

Playing for Money: Joey Latowski

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

I think you will find this an interesting lesson as you watch the unique shaft progression in Joey’s swing. He starts a bit on his heels, and then moves much deeper into the heels by rocking backwards at the start of the takeaway. This leads to a radically laid off position at the top, and he is left with steepening the downswing immediately from the top. This movement leaves his right upper arm well behind his side, and as a result he can’t really get his hands far enough in front of the ball to deliver a blow with enough…

Playing for Money: Scott Neely

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Scott is a former online lesson taker who decided to fly from Dallas to Maryland to spend two days with me at Lakewood. The notes you see following this paragraph are Scott’s observations he wrote down during and after the lessons. You may be wondering why there are so many things listed, and whether or not that constitutes overkill and the dreaded “thinking too much” malady, but remember that we spent 2 full days, about 12-13 hours, hitting balls and playing a bit. Scott had the time to pick my brain about every part of the swing, and while he…

Playing For Money: David Holmes

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Wayne,   Thanks for taking my call earlier. I’ll give you a rundown of my golf in the near past. I played golf at the University of Tennessee from 2006-2010. I Earned All-American honors in 2009 and had a fairly successful amateur career where my highest ranking reached 13th in the USA and 30th in the world. My ball striking was always a strong suit of my game and as soon as I became a good chipper and putter, I was able to contend in major tournaments. I turned professional in 2011 and have played three full seasons on the…

TP&C: Nick Price

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

This was a real treat for me, as you can imagine. Nick is a Hall of Famer, former #1 in the world, but has struggled recently with his driver and his results on the Champions Tour have not been up to his standards. I was in Florida at Old Palm with Brad Faxon and Brad, a good friend of Nick’s, mentioned that Nick had been hitting his driver all over the place and had taken a video of Nick’s swing. Brad showed it to me, and as you will see in this video I could tell right away what the…
