Improvement: Peter Procops, PGA Part 8

By Wayne | Improvement

Peter has good athletic motion and here we’re starting right off with the takeaway and the difference in right load from the rehearsal to the real swing. Peter’s rehearsal is good and stable with nice hand and arm width while his regular swing starts with a slide off the ball and much less width. Now I do like to see some right load but I want to see it as a result of the width and not in an effort to create the width.

Swing Analysis: Daniel Berger

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Here is another great example of a funky looking, unconventional backswing that winds up producing a brilliant approach to impact. It is reminiscent of Sergio’s swing in that the shaft stays extremely flat for an extended period of time in the forward swing, saved by the quick rotation of the left forearm to close the face and to arc the shaft onto to the plane by the time it is parallel to the ground. The other benefit of this technique is to bring the hands quite close to the body in the impact area with the right forearm looking directly at the ball and the shaft returning to the address shaft plane at impact.

Wayne D’s Swings from the PNC

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

These are a few swings I shot while I was at the PNC. The driver swings are before the tournament started, while the iron swings with the yellow shirt are the morning of the 2nd round. You will see all my old flaws, but I feel like I’m making progress in that my body held up pretty well and I managed to hit 12 fairways and 14 greens in the second round on a 7350-yard golf course. I know what I’m looking for and if I can keep practicing without hurting myself I think I can get back to being competitive, at least in my own section and hopefully on the national stage.

My Week at the PNC

By Wayne | blog

By now you know I shot 81-71 at the Professional National Championship at Turning Stone in Verona, NY. My number one goal for the week was to get through the practice rounds and pro-am and then be able to complete 36 holes walking, which I hadn’t done in 3 years. My expectations as to my play were fairly low, but the idea is to play hard and shoot as low as you can, so of course I harbored some hope of making the cut. I haven’t really played well on a difficult course in 7 or 8 years, and since I have less than 10 tournament rounds under my belt since I withdrew from the PNC two years ago my chances of making a cut that is fairly difficult due to the 310 players playing for 90 spots after 36 holes were probably not so great.

Swing Analysis: Lydia Ko, LPGA

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Lydia was the top rated women’s amateur for 2 ½ years, from the age of 14 to 16. She turned pro and after playing in only 23 events she was ranked 5th in the world. She moved to number 1 when she was only 17, and has been there ever since, finishing 1st, 1st, and 2nd in the last 3 women’s majors. Here we look at the massive swing changes she has undergone in the past year

Swing Analysis: Wayne D. Getting Ready for the PNC

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

It’s a Monday morning and before my weekly therapy session that usually leaves me unable to practice full swings I went out to the local public course to hit a few and took my camera with me. I am somewhat pleased with my progress of late as the set up change I made a few weeks ago is starting to pay some dividends. I don’t know if I will get this by the weekend, but I am on the right track and I expect to be playing some respectable golf in the near future.

Online Students: Tom Smith

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

I really enjoy the website and have really learned a lot from your videos. I am 58 and have recently retired so would like to spend more time refining my swing and lowering my handicap. I have a number of issues early in my swing that have proved challenging to correct. Club under the shaft plane, not using my trunk to initiate the swing which progresses to a down swing where the club comes in high and gets stuck.

Online Students: Chuck Zellner Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

As you will see in the video Chuck has made some nice improvement in his lower body action, but since last lesson he has started dropping his hands and arms behind him in transition, which we all know makes getting the shaft forward at impact quite difficult. I encourage Chuck to keep trying to center himself over the ball instead of leaning to the right, and also to load less to the right in the backswing.
