Hi Wayne,
I am another frustrated golfer who has been thinking of giving up the game. It Seems like the more effort I put in the worse I get.
I try to play an 8 handicap however my ball striking has never been any good especially with the driver. My tendency is to pull cut the ball with a weak fade.
I would like to send in for a few lessons over the next year and see how we go. Look forward to hearing from you.
Many Thanks
Anthony
As you will see in the video Anthony produces a powerful move that doesn’t produce a lot of power due to the delivery angle of the club to the ball. He approaches impact from a steep angle that forces his hands to bend down into impact, which as we have seen numerous times makes for an overly complex release and ultimately erratic contact, in this case being more of a glance across the ball making for a weak left to right shot. The irons, since they are struck with a steeper, more downward blow, can get away with this somewhat but the driver feels particularly bad when hit with this type of action. My suggestions here start a bit differently than most of my online lessons, as I point to Anthony’s grip and the fact that his left hand is pretty weak, with the wrist appearing to the side of the grip instead of more on top of it. I show some examples of normal Tour type grips (Garcia, Rose, Hogan, Elkington) and would like Anthony to refer to my video instructional lesson on the grip for more detail on just how to place the grip in the left hand. I also recommend he watch my video on tempo as his backswing is overly quick and in order to get better early trunk movement going back he would benefit from a relatively slower tempo. Beyond that Anthony needs to incorporate more of a sidearm throwing motion with the upper right arm and elbow moving inward and downward to flatten the shaft early in the downswing. Getting the club to stop cutting across the ball really depends on changing the angle of approach to a shallower one. This would include having the hands moving more out towards the ball in transition while the lower body drives more directly to the left instead of the knees moving more to the right of the target.
