Online Students: Mike Macaluso

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

In Mike’s email that came with the videos he stated that he had an amateur event to play in soon and was looking for something that might help out his “mess of a swing” (his own words). I always like to give a thorough analysis when people pay for an online lesson so most times there are going to be too many things to practice all at once. I usually suggest what I think the priorities should be but that is really more up to the student to decide after fiddling with each item a bit.

Online Students: Michael Beaty Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Michael has a very clear idea of what his problems are, but not a clear idea of how to fix them. From the video you will see that he has an excellent swing, and that his most glaring issue is just what he thought it was, the use of his lower body in the downswing. I compare him with Rory and the difference there along with the explanation will (I hope) help him retain his hip depth and to clear his left leg much better, which in turn will allow him to get his hands more forward at impact and to sustain his bent right wrist/flat left wrist past impact.

Swing Analysis: Danny Willett

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

We already saw a nice down the line view of Willett on the 16th at Augusta and now we can look more closely at his swing with different clubs and from various angles. It is a quirky but highly efficient swing with an extremely early set of the wrists and almost zero hip rotation in the backswing. If you were looking for a classis demonstration of the “hands out” move and the flattening of the shaft in transition this would be it. The only negative I see has nothing to do with his swing but more with his fidgety address routine, which seemed to take differing amounts of time with each shot. It worked out here of course, but over time I would think he would want to make that more consistent.

Online Students: Rick James Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

So overall though ball striking is showing signs of new potential. I had a 5 round run in April at home club with stroke avg. of 70.8 (par 71, course rating 72.1). I have stats for last 5-6 years and I tried to find a similar run on same course, it was the best, closest was one last Aug maybe 4 rounds at a few over aggregate, but in looking at GIRs that Aug run was ~ 10 avg. and the one last month was just under 14

Online Students: Kyle Parsons

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Kyle’s swing is a great example of a technically sound, on plane motion that could be made to work better by improving his release action. Kyle straightens his right arm at impact, which in the irons causes the hands to “throw” the clubhead at the ball, resulting in some erratic contact due to the fast rate of clubface rotation through impact. With the driver this same release pattern has Kyle swinging well out to the right with again a loss of clubface stability.

Lesson of the Week: Nick Cammarene Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Nick is the son of Mark Cammarene, a PGA Professional working in the Palm Beach, Florida area. Nick works at Jonathan’s Landing, another nice club in the same area, and is contemplating making a career in the golf business. Working in the business is way more fun when you’re a good player, and Nick was struggling when Mark decided to bring him down. This is Nick’s second lesson, and while he was hitting it much better he was still struggling with control of his longer clubs.

Online Students: Conner Kumpula Part 6

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

If you’ve been with the website for any length of time you have seen this swing analyzed before, and as usual it is one of the best I work with. Connor’s ball striking has improved over time and he is well on his way to being a consistent winner in the college ranks, but is still hampered by a tendency to block a shot to the right every now and then at inopportune moments. In this video I focus on something that I struggle with in my own swing, and as I try to work through my issues now that I have more physical mobility I have a better eye for the problem.

Swing Comparison: Danny Willett and Jordan Spieth

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

I couldn’t resist doing this comparison as the two are hitting the same shot on the same hole with the same fixed camera from almost the exact same spot. They both hit incredible pressure iron shots, with Spieth going pretty much right at the flag and Willett favoring a bit more of a right to left trajectory. As with any comparison there are similarities (which we could all take note of and try to emulate as these are two of the best on the planet) and some striking differences. I always find these examinations to be interesting and educational. Enjoy.
