Wayne D’s Swings from the PNC

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

These are a few swings I shot while I was at the PNC. The driver swings are before the tournament started, while the iron swings with the yellow shirt are the morning of the 2nd round. You will see all my old flaws, but I feel like I’m making progress in that my body held up pretty well and I managed to hit 12 fairways and 14 greens in the second round on a 7350-yard golf course. I know what I’m looking for and if I can keep practicing without hurting myself I think I can get back to being competitive, at least in my own section and hopefully on the national stage.

Swing Analysis: Lydia Ko, LPGA

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Lydia was the top rated women’s amateur for 2 ½ years, from the age of 14 to 16. She turned pro and after playing in only 23 events she was ranked 5th in the world. She moved to number 1 when she was only 17, and has been there ever since, finishing 1st, 1st, and 2nd in the last 3 women’s majors. Here we look at the massive swing changes she has undergone in the past year

Swing Analysis: Wayne D. Getting Ready for the PNC

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

It’s a Monday morning and before my weekly therapy session that usually leaves me unable to practice full swings I went out to the local public course to hit a few and took my camera with me. I am somewhat pleased with my progress of late as the set up change I made a few weeks ago is starting to pay some dividends. I don’t know if I will get this by the weekend, but I am on the right track and I expect to be playing some respectable golf in the near future.

Online Students: Tom Smith

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

I really enjoy the website and have really learned a lot from your videos. I am 58 and have recently retired so would like to spend more time refining my swing and lowering my handicap. I have a number of issues early in my swing that have proved challenging to correct. Club under the shaft plane, not using my trunk to initiate the swing which progresses to a down swing where the club comes in high and gets stuck.

Online Students: Chuck Zellner Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

As you will see in the video Chuck has made some nice improvement in his lower body action, but since last lesson he has started dropping his hands and arms behind him in transition, which we all know makes getting the shaft forward at impact quite difficult. I encourage Chuck to keep trying to center himself over the ball instead of leaning to the right, and also to load less to the right in the backswing.

Swing Analysis: Matt Kuchar 2016

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This was a fun one to do because it is rare to see obvious changes to a Tour player’s golf swing. Kuchar has gone from an idiosyncratic backswing that was as deep and behind him as anyone on tour to one where the hands, arms and club stay much more in front of his body. Much of this is accomplished by the combination of up-cocking the left wrist in the takeaway, moving the upper right arm more upward and away from the body than in the past, and restricting his lower body rotation in the backswing.

Swing Analysis: Brooks Koepka

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This is a great example of what I would call the “modern” swing, which incorporates restricted lower body movement in the backswing, plenty of both lateral and rotational movement in the forward swing, and a “drive/hold” release pattern, what I would previously term a “sustained” impact, where the right wrist stays bent well past impact as the clubface closes, causing the shaft to stay in line with the left arm until the hands move past the right leg in the follow through.

Online Students: Erik Ludtke Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

As you will see from the video Erik has a very good idea of what he needs to work on. In this analysis I suggest a more on plane takeaway achieved by cocking the wrists more vertically as the trunk moves the arms, and the hands moving slightly more straight back. I also emphasize the spacing of the right upper arm away from the body at address and into the start of the backswing. From there the big thing is the pelvic movement.
