Lesson of the Week: Yoshinori Shirakawa

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Yoshi traveled all the way from Japan for some in-person work with me. Amazingly enough I’ve had a few local students say it’s too far for them to drive to my new location which is only a few minutes away from where I was teaching. If you haven’t watched it take a look at his online lesson that was posted Wednesday. As you’ll see in this video some people have a bit more of a struggle than others when making swing changes. Yoshi was up to the challenge and by working hard he made some nice progress during our time…

Online Students: Yoshinori Shirakawa

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Yoshi is an avid golfer from Japan who came upon the website and decided to send me his swing for analysis. It is certainly an interesting one, as his anxiousness to make sure the beginning of his swing is correct by watching it go back has caused him to develop a rather bizarre takeaway. Yoshi plans on coming to the states to see me in a few weeks and I have no doubt that we will spend as much time as it takes to correct this and to turn it into a normal looking backswing. In most cases people who…

Improvement: David Trungale

By Wayne | Improvement

Hey Wayne, I just wanted to let you know that your last online lesson helped me a lot. I am hitting the ball better: Of course I still have a lot of work to do… I’m considering coming out to Maryland this winter (if you give indoor lessons during that time?) I look forward to our next lesson and thanks once again. – David Trungale Premium Members: Check out David’s first two lessons to see the nice improvements David has made: Online Students: David Trungale Online Students: David Trungale Part 2 Everybody please do send in your improvements I want…

Getting to the Next Level

By Wayne | Articles: In Golf as in Life

Some years back I played in the Michelob Championship at the Kingsmill Resort, the PGA Tour stop in Williamsburg, Virginia, where I shot 68-74, even par, and missed the cut by one stroke. My intent as I thought about the subject for this article was to recount my second round in detail, and I will get to that in a bit. But as I thought about the lessons learned from my experience I saw a larger theme that runs through all of my day to day dealings with the game as well as those of the people who take lessons…

Swing Analysis: Charl Schwartzel’s Driver

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

I got some great shots of Charl at the Barclay’s this year when he, Luke Donald, and Sergio joined Kevin Streelman (I work with Kevin) for a practice round. It’s rare to be out on the course with a camera and tripod but as I like to take shots of Kevin that I can use the V1 to analyze I happened to be prepared to get some nice footage. The down the line view was from the par 5 3rd hole (I think) and the face on was on the drivable 5th. The one on the 3rd was one of…

Playing for Money: David Holmes Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

This video pretty much speaks for itself. When you compare David’s swings from the initial online lesson to these it is easy to see the tremendous change in technique. Every now and then I meet someone with the ability to change quickly, and David is certainly one of these lucky folks. He was so happy to hear that what he was working on (and wasn’t working) was antithetical to my own views on how the swing should work that he took to my suggestions immediately and not only made the changes but starting hitting the ball way better right away.…

Online Students: Sven Engler

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Hi Wayne,   I’m really excited to get your opinion and analysis of my swing. I’m 52 years old and have played golf since I was 10. I grew up in the US (Connecticut, and then college in Washington DC), and subsequently moved to Sweden, where I’ve been living since the mid-eighties.   I have always taken the game very seriously; I played some college golf at the George Washington University*, and even gave the pro level a shot one season on the national tour of Sweden. But now I’m a reinstated amateur and enjoy the game as a hobby.…

Online Students: Conner Kumpula Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Wayne, “Here is an update. Conner has qualified as #1 for two weeks in a row at Oregon State. Hitting the ball well, but still not hitting the driver very often due to inconsistencies. It has not hurt him much because the 3 wood off the tee is going 290 and staying in play. He has been focusing most of his effort on trying to quiet down the right leg on the down swing. The two drills he is using to accomplish this are standing on two 2 x 4’s and hitting balls and your one 2 x 4 under…
