TP&C: Tom Kite

I thought one of my buddies was pulling a prank on me when I got the text that Tom Kite had called over to my old club to try and contact me. They gave him the number to Lakewood and sure enough he called here and told me that he had been trying some of my ideas he had seen on the website and wanted me to view a few swings that he took last week at the U.S. Senior Open (he finished 14th) and send back some comments and recommendations. I did so (you will be watching the video I sent to him), then he called after viewing it and we had a nice 40 minute conversation about his swing and what I had suggested. The biggest thing, we decided, was that his shaft was moving from flat to steep in transition, and while he is great at maintaining the shaft angle and not flattening it behind him, the overall pattern was trapping his right arm behind him and the club was starting to get more and more stuck while the hands were coming in high due to the large amount of bend in the right arm. I asked him if it was OK to post the video and he said yes, but wondered if I didn’t want to wait until he had some better swings to present. I thought about that, but decided that the cool thing was that he wanted my opinion in the first place, and since he is one of the greatest players to ever play the PGA Tour it was an honor for me to be asked and that whatever swings he came up with would be great for the website members (of which Tom is one) to view. So enjoy, and as Tom said he would like to work on it for a few days and send some new ones, we will be able to see how he progresses.
