Len has had an odd year, playing some decent golf but constantly missing cuts by one or two shots. I haven’t watched him play, but he reports that his putting has been off in some of the events and in others his proximity to the hole is not allowing him to shoot low enough scores. Here we keep working on the swing issues that I see in Lenny’s swing, particularly his tendency to drop his hands downward in transition and shoot his right leg out from under him. In our last session we focused on the fact that he jams the upper right arm into his side too soon in the start down instead of allowing the pull of the body against the left arm to keep the hands away from the head and the right arm spaced away from the side until the left arm is about 45 degrees down in the forward swing, and that appears to be getting somewhat better. This may have taken some focus away from the “hands out, hips deep and clearing hard” thoughts that we were working on, but in reality they all go together, and for the swing to click and the ball striking to get to another level they all have to be done together. It doesn’t have to be perfect obviously, but we need more overall improvement. Lenny sees the issues and is working diligently on everything we talk about, but he is competing every week just about and it is very difficult to incorporate the changes when every shot counts. Of course, if you just go out and swing away and it’s not good enough you’re going to have to think of something, so the player is constantly trying to put a few of the thoughts together to get things to work better under the gun.
