TP&C: Kevin Streelman Part 5

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

Kevin, A.J. and I are really excited about the coming PGA Tour season, and when you watch these swings I think you will see why. His swing keeps improving, and this week we really made a big positive difference by focusing on his trigger movements at the start of the swing. Kevin is a former top level tennis player who moves fluidly and athletically, but his tendency is to move around too much before he actually starts moving the club. He has a combination of triggers that disrupt his takeaway, and they raise havoc with the consistency of his short game as well as causing pattern issues in his full swing. The one swing where he can get away with extra movement is the driver swing and he is one of the best drivers on the Tour. Making his opening movements more efficient should help him with his club/ball contact for any shot played when the ball is on the ground. Quieting the takeaway will have multiple benefits: it will allow his shoulders to turn less steeply so that he can rotate the shaft more onto the plane instead of more vertical; he will be able to rotate his forearms to open the face more parallel to the plane; and he will be able to load right after the club reaches waist high and create more right hip depth. The whole idea is to simplify the swing motion in both the full swing and the short game swing: we are getting there.
