TP&C: Kevin Streelman

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

I had already been working with Kevin a bit online and when he missed the cut at the Open he called me to see if I had some time on the weekend. I did, and we spent the afternoon both Saturday and Sunday going over some new stuff. In addition to the swing stuff you see here we also went over his pitching technique and his putting. He had a tendency to pull his left arm behind him when he hit short to medium pitches, and liked the feeling of driving the right arm and wrist more forward through the ball. I suggested a change in his putting grip to one where the right hand wasn’t as much on top of the left, and to my surprise he liked the idea and instituted the grip immediately, possibly because his caddy had been suggesting the same thing for a while.

If you watch the swing analysis I did of Kevin last year you can tell that I really like his action. My suggestion for him to get even better was to get his hips more in the box, as he had always tended to drive his right leg toward the ball, which as we all now know pushes the butt up under the upper trunk and causes a serious loss of posture and an in to out path. It was his desire to fix this that brought him to me, but only because he had watched the analysis on the website along with other swing analysis videos and knew that I was on the right track when it came to pivot movement. Anyway, as I’m writing this he’s made 6 straight birdies and is in contention to win. No matter what happens, I will be spending time with Kevin on Tour 3 times in the next 6 weeks, and I look forward to sharing our work with you.
