Dick Mast is now 41st on the Champions Tour money list with over $285,000, and you can see why he has had his best year ever as you watch these swings. He likes to move the ball both ways (and has a straight shot as well), so I filmed him doing one of each, and you can really see how the swing produces the shot he is picturing in his mind. The changes are subtle but definitely noticeable with the camera, and you can see the change in swing shape produce different impact alignments for each desired ball flight.
When I first met Dick he wasn’t happy with the way he was striking the ball, noting that he didn’t feel that he was compressing the ball effectively, so when I showed him that he could use the ground to add to his lateral drive and that lowering was a good thing to have in the pivot movement he absolutely loved the ideas. He had been trying to do just about the opposite things as a result of some different instruction, so my thoughts and preferences really clicked with him and he felt immediate results. When you look at the impact alignments in the face on view you can see that the way he is using his pivot is allowing him to absolutely crush the ball, and that, combined with the shaft and hand control he demonstrates while shaping his iron shots, give you a great idea of how a guy goes from essentially nowhere to being one of the top players over 50 in the world, and just maybe the best player over 60 anywhere.
