Tiger Woods Demonstrates Exemplary Pitching Technique

As we know, the reports of Tiger Woods having irreversible pitching yips have been greatly exaggerated (Brandel and Hank). He has always had one of the best short games in history, and he is still getting it up and down from everywhere. Here we see a standard tight lie pitch shot where he chooses to flight the ball higher and carry it further than it seems he would have to as he considers the best spot on the green to land the ball. The old adage to get the ball on the ground as soon as possible can be good advice for players who like to use their 60 degree wedge and flight every shot way up in the air, but in this case hitting a lower pitch that would run more would have the ball land in a severe upslope while the green sits much flatter further up toward the pin. The elements to focus on here are the relaxed set up with the arms softly on the body, the putting stroke-like rhythm of the swing, the path of the club moving slightly out then shifting slightly back to a shallower approach, and the rotation of both the lower and upper trunks in the downswing motion. Especially notable is the covering action of the right side and the leftward arc of the hands through impact and into the follow through.
