Online Students: Derek Cribb

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

As you can see, Derek is doing quite well, and in this video I try to keep him moving in the right direction. There are four items for Derek to consider here; I want him to continue to try to soften his arms at address and keep the right arm bend with width in the backswing. I think his left wrist is too cupped at the top, so he could concentrate on taking some of that bend out and getting it less cupped at the top.

Hi Wayne, Thanks for analyzing my swing, it was very informative and helpful. I played the last two weeks and shot 76-80 (tough courses) I was very happy with my play the courses I played were both over 7500 yards and in very wet/cold conditions. The Swing is coming along very nicely, My practice sessions have been very productive and my shots are getting a lot tighter in shot dispersion, just gonna keep being patient with it and work hard.. I have set my goal at the end of the year to try and qualify on the Asian tour, I…

Online Students: Derek Cribb Part 4

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

I think it would be interesting to go back to watch Derek’s other online lessons either before or after this one to see the progression in the first three and then the bit of regression here in the fourth. Derek reported in that he had been playing and scoring quite well a few months prior to shooting these swings but after getting busy with work and life and not having time to practice or play much had run into a poor stretch of play. In analyzing the swing we see Derek’s usual fluid move and stable lower body from face…

Online Students: Derek Cribb Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Derek has made some significant changes in his swing as evidenced by the side by side I use to begin the video. Derek’s first batch of swings showed very nice movement and sequence, and he has the gift of lag and a forward leaning shaft, which means the improvements he can make will be more mechanical in the sense of his placement and direction of the arms, hands and shaft. My suggestion was to eliminate the “pinched” right arm, first by relaxing the arms at address, then by allowing the right arm to bend and get deeper in the early…

Online Students: Derek Cribb Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Derek worked on his first online lesson for about 2 weeks before sending another set of swings, and the change is noticeable. While his arms don’t appear to be a lot softer at address I think his right arm is actually much softer than the first swings he sent, and that has helped him quite a bit in improving his takeaway and thus his entire backswing. His right arm now bends a bit and stays wider in the first part of the backswing, which allows him to achieve a fuller swing overall and opens up the possibility of pointing the…

Online Students: Derek Cribb

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Derek is a 2 handicap who can shoot under par but is susceptible to high scores due to a stubborn hook with the driver and some overall inconsistency with his ball striking. One thing he surely has plenty of is forward shaft lean, and in the video I go over why that is not such a great thing with the driver. A couple of things that stand out to my eye right away are the tight elbows at address, followed by the pinched right arm in the backswing. If you have watched any number of my previous lessons you will…
