As you have seen from previous lessons, both online and in person, Jason has a wonderful swing but tends to get off track with his backswing. In this lesson I address his tempo, which I think is too fast for him to really feel what he is doing at the start of his swing, as well as his tendency to push his left shoulder too downward also at the beginning of the takeaway. Jason’s left arm gets sucked across his chest too quickly with his right shoulder raising too vertically, the result being a clubface that stays closed a bit too long, just past shaft parallel to the ground. Jason always feels like his right side gets jammed up in the backswing, and at the speed everything is moving he doesn’t have time to get it in order during the swing. With the right shoulder hunched up a bit his right arm stays a bit too bent in transition and when his arm moves into the sidearm throwing feeling the shaft tends to flatten too long into the downswing and the clubhead gets stuck behind his hands. I think if he consciously slows things down he can feel the shoulders start back with less downward push and he can then open the face more getting to shaft parallel. All this will allow his right arm to function better throughout the swing which will be a big help in getting the shaft to come down above the right forearm.
