I have high hopes for Derek. He has simple, powerful and efficient swing that needed a few tweaks when he first came to see me and now is really rounding into shape. Our first item in this 2- day session was to get the posture more up on the balls of the feet with the pelvis tilted a bit more. From there we wanted to quiet down his trigger movement, which was too much of a bounce and sit back thing with his pelvis getting more level right off the bat. This allows him to get the right hip deeper without having it sit under him. Next item, from face on, was getting the right side of the pelvis to load back toward the right heel without cutting away from the box line. When Derek loads into his center or left he tends to tilt his pelvis down and left in transition, and with his right side a bit overturned because of the pelvic movement his upper right arm and shoulder tend to work behind him, causing the club to cross the line slightly at the top. You will see as he is able to get deeper and to keep the upper right arm from pulling back to help the turn (we want the backswing to be all trunk rotation and left shoulder stretch) it stays in much better position to make a simple move back in front of the chest in the forward swing. The last two swings here, although they are not quite full, are absolutely mint, which is why I am excited for Derek as he heads to South America for a batch of tournaments.
