Online Students: Parker Andrews

: Hello,

“I’m really excited to find out that Wayne does online lessons. I really liked your ideas around pivot compression. I would like to have phone consultation as well as the video lesson Wayne.

I am 2 handicap just coming back from left hip surgery (started full swings this week). My ballstriking has always been by far my weakest golf quality, but I can get up and down with the best of them (because I have to :))

My basement is a golf studio (putting and Trackman), but it is not incredibly bright, so I bought an LED flood light to help–although the videos still look dark. However, I’ve also pasted videos of my swings with better light prior to my surgery when I was working with Joe Mayo. I also have Trackman data from today’s swings if you need.”

Parker’s swing demonstrates a pattern we have seen quite often. Overturning with the right shoulder causes the right arm to get stuck behind his right side, a condition made worse by the fact that Parker’s upper body leans forward toward the target in transition while his legs drive out from under him to the right. My suggestions here are to go back to a square stance with the driver and concentrate on maintaining flex in the right knee in the backswing. The later swing shows a much better face on “in the box” hip turn in the backswing, and if that has translated to the driver then he’s on the right track. From there Parker should focus on width in the backswing by trying to stretch the left shoulder and not use the right to increase the turn, then in transition it is a must that his head stays behind the ball and only moves back into its original position instead of the whole upper body moving forward along with the lower. It would also be a great idea to use the stick between the legs to get the right leg to move inward instead of out from under him. It is great that Parker is a 2 handicap already and if he improves some of this I think he can be a much better ball striker.
