This is a little different as far as what we usually see in a swing analysis in that Mark has an excellent move that is just a bit too short and compact and comes in with a bit too much sidearm action, the combination of which has him approaching impact from under the plane. I would like to see Mark increase his upper body coil and lower back engagement in the backswing, which I believe would help him produce more power and keep him from over-flattening the shaft in the downswing. He is really a candidate for a hands-on lesson, as it would be pretty easy to get him to feel the difference in the coiling action of the upper body with me cranking him up and getting him to lengthen his backswing the right way. If he had more coil in the backswing he could shallow the shaft quicker in transition and spend the rest of the downswing steepening the shaft so that he wouldn’t approach impact from the inside so much. He really needs to be bent over more in the downswing, which means his hips need to be deeper while his head stays out over the ball. He has a bunch of good stuff going on here but I would like to see it lengthen out in the backswing and be more aggressive with the lateral drive in the forward swing. If I had my hands on him I would crank up his turn in the backswing, push his hips deeper and drive them more forward in the downswing, and get him to feel what it was like to be more bent over coming through impact.
