Online Students: Kerry Ondrovik Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Here we see a very nice swing with good ground compression, excellent transition movement, and a vastly improved impact area. I see a couple of areas to focus on in order to continue the progress made over the past year, starting with the address position. I like the shaft to point at the belt buckle at address, and in Kerry’s setup we see a lower hand position. His backswing is triggered by a sliding movement to the right which happens before the club moves, and that, combined with the low hands, causes the club to start back under the shaft plane and then get behind his hands at shaft parallel. He manages to get the shaft back on plane at left arm parallel, but the pattern of motion is more upward now and from left arm parallel to the top he moves the handle of the club dead vertically, and his progression in this area is upward 8 degrees. I would like to see him cut that down to 4 degrees, which would make his top of the swing position significantly deeper (and also point the club more on plane instead of across the line), which would in turn allow the fine transition move he makes to work better for him by having his hands approach impact from a deeper position and his approach get much closer to returning on the original shaft plane.
