Chris’ swing is one more example of good lines and excellent sequence and motion being compromised by lack of pivot depth. If you are wondering why I call my general teaching method the “Pivot Compression Golf Swing” it is because there are so many swings that fail to approach their potential due to substandard body movement. Chris does a great job with his aggressive tempo and great rhythm, and for the most part keeps the club right on plane until the approach to impact, where his lack of hip depth causes his arms and hands to come in high and shoot out to the right after he hits it. My first suggestion is to change the set up to something more bent at the waist with the weight distributed more toward the balls of his feet. I always bring up the picture of Adam Scott at address as I really like the way he looks athletically “ready” to move into his swing. Chris’s takeaway is right on the money, but his overall movement starts heading toward the front of his feet at about left arm parallel. In transition both of his knees move toward the ball, causing him to get even more erect with his body, leaving his right arm stuck behind his side. This loss of midsection bend goes along with his hands dropping fairly vertically as they change direction, and both things will have to change in order to get this to drastically improve. The Golf Posture Pod would be a great machine for Chris to work on as it directly addresses his number one fault. I am hoping that he can get down here for a lesson (he doesn’t live that far away) so I can give him the feel for the changes I have suggested.
