Michelle Wie’s New Putting Stance

This is one of the most innovative, or desperate, technique changes you will ever see. Wie is actually bent over as close to 90 degrees as you can get over a putt. It is as bizarre a thing as I’ve come across in my 46 years in golf, but hey, whatever works, I guess. It does not appear that she will be able to practice for any length of time like this, however. It does help if you are over 6 feet tall and your legs are about 70% of that. Anyway, she makes the putt and executes a substantial vertical leap. I think she still has eligibility left to play college hoops.

Never thought I’d see the day when Wayne’s lines on the v1 software would be used to note the cut of a golfer’s clothing. Much better concept on the likes of Michelle Wie than say a Mark Calcavechia or Stadlers Craig or Kevin.

As crazy as Wie’s posture is, i have a suggestion that might be both crazier and more effective: let her arms hang down at a 90 angle from her shoulders. This would put her hands very very close to the ground, perhaps just a few inches above the ground. Use a putter that is just long enough to reach the ball, given this posture. This might mean the putter is only 8 to 12 inches long, including the grip. But think of the control she would have over the putter head with a center shafted putter where the shaft is at a 90 degree angle to the putter head. Long putting might be tough, but this mini putter could be deadly inside of 10 feet. So take the 4 iron out of the bag and add a second putter just for the short putts. Of course, she could play a slightly longer putter if she wanted to anchor the thing from the forearm down, Kuchar style. This would probably allow for a putter in the 15 to 18 inch range. If nothing else, she’d keep the chiropractors in business.

Try a different browser on some of the videos that don’t play. Like Chrome or Firefox.

I had to do it a few times.
