Lydia Ko was a prodigy to say the least. She was #1 in the world at age 17 and had 2 majors under her belt along with 15 tour wins before she was 20. A few years later she found herself in golf never-never land, going through swing coaches and caddies in search of the missing magic. She only won once in 90 events before breaking through with a 2nd in the latest women’s major and followed that up with a 7-shot win. Much credit goes to her new instructor Sean Foley, who essentially got her back to what she had felt was natural in the past. In the video we see the vast change she made in 2016, going from an on-plane backswing to one that had the shaft vertical at P3 and more across the line at the top. For whatever reason that didn’t work out, and Foley has done a nice job simplifying and tightening up her swing while retaining her natural fluidity. Some people are put off by Foley’s holistic psychological approach to the mental side of the game, but I have the feeling that it was exactly what Ko needed to regain confidence in her abilities. Her swing looks great now and her putting stroke, which I also show in the video, is one of the best you will ever see. I look for her to regain her position among the top players in the women’s game.
