Don’t get me wrong here when I say “loose in transition”: I normally use the term “catchy” or “whippy” to describe a swing that puts a large amount of stress on the handle in transition (Herbert is built like a fullback) while the wrists are allowed to bend as the club reaches the top and changes direction, and being a Hogan lover I have no problem with this type of action. Herbert happens to be one of the best putters on the planet, and when he can find his tee shots (he averages 311 yds off the tee and is ranked 10th in driving distance in Europe but is among the worst in driving accuracy) he has the ability to forward lean the shaft and control his ball flight with his irons, as you would expect a top -level player from Australia to be able to do. His swing is fun to watch: his legs are Nicklaus-like (huge thighs), and he keeps and adds flex during the swing, driving a large amount laterally while getting massively open at impact. I believe that as he tightens his transition, he will be in the hunt more often and will experience more consistent results.
