Christaan Bezuidenhout: Swing Analysis

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This guy is doing what every mini-tour player dreams of: going from a small tour (South Africa), to a minor league tour in a different country (the Challenge Tour), through European Q-School, to a win on the European Tour, and now to a spot in the top 50 in the world rankings. He swings with a wonderful rhythm, seemingly unhurried and appearing unfazed by events during the round, with solid technique. His backswing is picture perfect as he utilizes a right forearm style takeaway to get the clubface open and the shaft on plane, arriving at a nice-looking position at…

Swing Analysis: Mackenzie Hughes

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

After missing 5 straight cuts and 9 out of his first 11 events for the 2020 season (finishing outside the top 50 in the 2 cuts he made), Hughes finished solo 2nd at the Honda Classic on the incredibly difficult Champions Course at PGA National in Florida with a 50 foot birdie putt on 17 and a fortunate par on 18. Hughes played the infamous “Bear Trap” 1 under for the week and shot a pair of 66’s on the weekend (lowest 36-hole total for the entire field by 3 shots) after making the cut on the number. In looking…

THE BEST Senior IRON Swing for Elite Level Play and Competition

By Wayne | The Senior Swing , Videos: Swing Analysis

This video is a continuation of “THE BEST Senior Swing for Elite Level Play and Competition”. In the first video I covered the driver swing: now, in this video, I cover the iron swing. The two swings are similar but there are some key differences when hitting the ball off the ground with an iron, hybrid, or fairway metal instead of off a tee with a driver. While other online golf instructors suggest that seniors prioritize a bigger backswing, my senior swing prioritizes elite-level impact with power coming from proper sequencing made possible and enhanced by the specific stance and…

The Two Main Elite Level Pitching Techniques Demonstrated

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

I have a question for you: Do you track your ball-striking stats either manually or with an app? If your answer to this question is “no” and you’re serious about lowering your scores you should consider changing that approach. Now think about these two questions: How many greens in regulation do you hit on average? When you miss the green how often do you get up and down for par? Even if you’re one of the best ball-strikers on the planet hitting approximately 75% of your greens in regulation you’ll still have to get up and down every fourth hole.…

Cameron Smith and Brendan Steele: Swing Comparison -Sony Open Playoff

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Watching these two swings on TV in full speed I could see the club doing some serious dancing at the top so I figured it would be interesting to slow them down and check them out more closely. What we will see are two distinctly different backswing techniques that produce excellent approaches to impact, both getting the upper right arm nicely in front of the right hip for a sidearm style release, Steele’s being slightly more extended toward the target. Both players have the shaft well flat of the plane at P3, with Smith utilizing a severely externally rotated right…

Tiger, Woodland and Bradley: Pre-Shot Routine- First Hole of the Last Round

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

I was always the most nervous in tournament play on the first tee, especially if I had gotten myself into contention, which of course ratchets up the pressure. Every player wants to get off to a good start, but when your heart rate is up, and your stomach is not exactly settled the pre-shot routine becomes even more paramount. This should be something that is practiced constantly, and the more you do it the same way over and over the less you have to think about it, which is just what you want when you feel hyped up. Here we…

Brendan Todd Swing Analysis: A Swing Worthy of Copying

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This is a great golf swing. It’s hard to believe that after making 1.8 million dollars in 2015 Todd then missed 39 of his next 44 cuts, then after making a few at the end of 2019 when he only made $250,000, he started the wrap around 2020 season with 4 more mc’s before a final round 66 got him a 28th in Houston. Then, suddenly, he reels off 2 straight wins and a 4th to end the year ranked #1 in the Fed Ex Cup standings. Pretty amazing stuff to rebound from such a long decline, but from the…

THE BEST Senior DRIVER Swing for Elite Level Play and Competition

By Wayne | The Senior Swing , Videos: Swing Analysis , Videos: Wayne D's Swing

I’m 62 years old (2019) and have limited trunk mobility due to multiple back, elbow, foot and other surgeries from injuries during my long teaching and playing career. Most of the online instruction catering to senior golfers focuses on increasing the backswing arc by closing the stance and maximizing the backswing turn, while I go in the totally opposite direction by suggesting that the best swing technique for senior golfers still interested in competing who are coping with limited flexibility and continuing back pain is the open stance.

Wyndham Clark Swing Analysis: All Around Excellence

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This is a great golf swing, and I’m going to go out on a limb (not a big one) to say that this guy will win on Tour and eventually be one of the best players out there. When I first saw this swing I knew I would like it, and when I slowed it down (the swing here luckily was caught with a stable camera on a good angle) I liked it even more, and will now use it as a model to show all my students, but especially the young ones trying to make a living playing the…

Danny Lee and Johnny Miller: Front Foot Flying

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Watching Danny Lee at the CJ Cup (he finished 2nd) I noticed his leg action and immediately thought that it was similar to a swing I have looked at many times, Johnny Miller. The movement I reference here is the front foot, in these cases the left foot, sliding well to the left away from its original position as the hips continue to rotate aggressively just after impact. In Miller’s case his huge lateral pelvic drive along with his rotation move his left foot forward and left, while Lee, more of a squatty, right leg hold with less lateral movement…
