Frank Bensel PGA: Follow-Up- Talented Players Make Quick Changes if they are Not Too Complicated

By Wayne | PGA Professionals , Videos , Videos: Online Students

These follow-up swings were taken 6 days after I sent him his first analysis.  The video speaks for itself: like the title says, good players can make changes quicker and easier than not-so-good players.  However, the only real test as to whether the changes were good ones is in competition.  We will see how Frank plays in the future.

Online Lesson: Frank Bensel PGA- Top Notch Club Professional Asks for a Look/See

By Wayne | PGA Professionals , Videos , Videos: Online Students

Frank is 52 and a 3-time National PGA Assistant’s Champion from the Metropolitan Section, arguably the toughest section in the country when it comes to quality of players.  Frank is always in the mix at the club pro level, but he was having some ball striking issues and gave me a ring, although we had never worked together in the past.  Without a doubt, Frank has an excellent golf swing, and my job is to point out items that in my opinion might be causing some of his inconsistency.  The first thing I notice here is Frank’s posture, which I…

Online Lesson: Brent Greenwood- Great Technique, Needs Dynamics

By Wayne | Videos , Videos: Online Students

I don’t know if I have ever given an online lesson like this: Brent’s technique is nearly flawless.  It is on plane at every crucial position, hips are in the box both face on and dtl, no excessive lifting or arm collapse, literally nothing to criticize about how he has built his swing mechanics.  So, what is the lesson about?  I always look for athleticism in a swing, especially one as sound as Brent’s.  When I watch it, I get this sense that he could do much more with his pivot in terms of stretching, loading, and creating a more…

Lesson of the Week: John Lamendola- Working on Not Backing Up and Slowing Backswing Tempo

By Wayne | Videos , Videos: Lesson of the Week , Videos: Online Students , Videos: Swing Analysis

John has made great strides with his swing over the years we have been working together (mostly online) but now that he has acquired a place in Florida, we have had a couple of in person lessons in which I have been able to get John to feel things that not hard to mention and explain online but are not easy to feel without some hands on, face to face work.  Here we find John’s head backing well away from its original position as he arrives at impact, and to get him to feel what it’s like to stay out…

John Lamendola- Working on Right Loading and Width

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

John has been my most prolific online lesson taker for over 5 years, and in this video, we get a rare chance to work face to face.  John has a great setup in his home in New York, with a basement golf room that sports all the bells and whistles, and he almost exclusively films there and sends swings to me for analysis and advice.  We have done some nice work with the online lessons, but I always prefer to work in person as I can get my hands on the student and move them around to get them to…

Lesson of the Week: Dave Rasley- Trying to Get Back to the Old Swing

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Trust me when I tell you that Dave was a really good player.  The year I qualified for the Senior Open I was 51 years old.  I shot 67 and was medalist.  At 69 and in 2nd place was Dave, and he is 10 years older than I am.  That makes him 73 now and having moved to Arizona he still plays lots of golf.  A few years ago, he decided that he would finally fix his short, across the line swing, so he signed up for a series of 10 lessons from a reputable teacher.  He told the guy…

Online Lesson: Sim Allan- Looking for More Right-Load and a More Active Lower Body

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Sim has made great strides since his first lesson (this is his 3rd) and I encourage you to watch the previous ones.  I focus here only on his face on view as there is a lot to talk about there and his down the line view is quite good and not the real issue.  The main problem I see is Sim’s tendency to drift his upper body over his lower in transition instead of using the ground to drive the pelvis with the 3 attributes I talk about all the time, depth, lateral, and rotation.  Feeling the stretch in the…

Online Lesson Follow-Up: Justin Miller

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Greatly Improved Lower Body Work I don’t think the average golfer understands how hard it is to change a swing. People come for a lesson, and when they see that they make a multitude of mistakes they think that doing one or maybe two things will be the answer, and that it shouldn’t take that long.  When they come back for a follow-up and swear that their swing will look totally different and it doesn’t, they can only take that for so long before they give up and move on to another teacher or a different idea they found on…

Online Lesson: Patrick Cunningham- Good Swing Needs Shape Change

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Message to Wayne  Hello Wayne. I’ve been watching your stuff for a long time. I know I stand up on the backswing and pull my head off the ball and push my hips toward the ball at impact. I would like to do the “magic move” but have a hard time to feel it. I know I could really improve my iron strikes. I hit the longer clubs, especially the driver, well – of course. It’s no surprise that Patrick hits his fairway woods and driver better than his irons: his in to out path is much more conducive to…

Online Lesson: Jaime Gylan PGA- Better Posture Would Help an Already Excellent Swing

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

I’ve known Jaime since he was in high school (that was a while ago), and I’m always proud when one of my former students becomes a highly respected teaching professional. Jaime, like I did in my prime, works hard on his game and would like to start seeing better results in his club professional tournaments. He has always had a nice swing, and here I make some simple suggestions to try out to see if we can get it to work better. I put him side by side with Charl Schwartzel, partly because of his grip (I think it’s one…
