Online Students: Matthew Latham Part 3

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Wayne, “It feels pretty good overall. The start of this year my play has been good and I managed to get to +4 which is cool, but largely thanks to good driving. My iron play is sporadic; with some misses that are too large and I definitely still need to improve the knock downs we worked on last year. – In this video lesson, you will see that Matthew (who incidentally has an excellent swing) is spot on about his concerns with his lower body movement and how that contributes to his right arm issues in the downswing.

Online Students: Austin Kendziorski Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

I’ve been working with Austin for about a year and a half now and he has brought his stroke average playing for Marquette University down by almost 6 shots. He is a strong kid (121 mph clubhead speed and 180 ball speed) and is learning to control the ball better by improving his swing technique. His main struggle has been with the clubhead getting trapped behind his hands as he approaches impact, and in this lesson, you can see this issue clearly in his first batch of swings.

Online Students: John Kent

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

John is the father of one of website member Mark Smith’s good friends, and Mark was nice enough to purchase an online lesson for him. John plays to an 11 handicap now at age 70, but was a 7 a few years back before undergoing serious back surgery. Some of what we see here is certainly the result of the balky back, but there are things we can do to improve the movement and give John a chance to get back some of the strokes he has lost.

Online Students: Chris Wainwright, PGA UK

Being quite familiar with major back problems I see some similarities in the problems Chris is experiencing with his swing and what I constantly fight in my own swing, which is initiating the forward swing with proper sequence. The change of direction from clockwise to counter-clockwise must be initiated by the muscles of the right hip, and as the rotation works against the stabilized right leg the pelvis advances to the left as it unwinds.

Online Students: John Lamendola Part 6 – Nice Progress

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

As you will see, John has every reason to be excited because he has just figured out (with a little help) how to change an age old chronic pattern, which as you know is quite hard to do. We have changed a bunch of things for the better in John’s swing, but still the hands wanted to loop back and drop the right arm behind him in transition, something he hated to see and desperately wanted to change.

Online Students: John Lamendola Part 5

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

John has made great strides with his swing and it is showing in his scores. The one item that has proven the most stubborn is the dropping back of the hands and right arm in transition. His backswing is now wider and more on plane, but after dealing with a motion pattern where his pivot essentially caused the hands to want to deepen at the top of the swing, they have a mind of their own and have grooved this unwanted movement.

Online Students: Austin Kendziorski

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Austin’s already had a very nice motion when he came to me for help but since then he has improved his mechanics substantially. His main issue has always been an overuse of the right upper arm in transition, driving the elbow in too aggressively and flattening the club for too long a period, causing the shaft to get stuck behind his hands on the approach.
