Swing Analysis: Rickie Fowler from 2010 to 2017

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

In this video, I look at Rickie Fowler’s swing and the changes he has made from his first full year on Tour (2010) to this year. He is having an excellent 2017, having won the Honda along with 2 other top 10’s in his first 5 events, after having what was for him an off year in 2016. Fowler played nicely from 2010 to 2012, but slipped a bit in 2013 and sought out the help of Butch Harmon in the off season.

Playing for Money: Nick Sherwood Part 2

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Wayne, “I just wanted to give a quick update. Over the past two weeks in Palm Desert I have made and seen lots of progress. I am hitting lots of golf shots I’ve never seen. Specifically talking about speed and distance. I am encouraged about the road we are heading down. That was Nick commenting on his feelings about our first online lesson, and this video is the second.

Online Students: John Lamendola Part 8

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

If you want to see how you can improve your swing via online lessons just watch my lessons with John Lamendola. He sends his swings, I make suggestions, and then he works on it for a while and sends another swing. If you think about it, say you had a great teaching pro at your club and you had the opportunity to conveniently take a lesson with him or her every week at a reasonable price: would you take advantage of it?

Swing Analysis: Wayne D. One-Armed

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

I haven’t mentioned it but I had right elbow surgery on December 28th and haven’t been able to hit any balls since then. In fact, I really haven’t hit any since the first of December when I got down to Boca as I hurt the arm just before I left. I wasn’t doing anything odd, just hitting off the mat at Lakewood, but it was cold and caught one funny and felt something on the inside of my right elbow. I had an ulnar nerve transposition on me left elbow back in the early 80’s, and that elbow has given me some issues since then (none serious), so when I felt this one I figured it would just go away with some ice and rest.

Pro Tip of the Week: Iron Swing vs. Driver Swing

By Wayne | Videos: Pro Tip of the Week

It would be nice if one swing would work fine for every shot. Certainly, every swing has elements that are similar or even exactly the same, but if you are going to drive the ball well and hit your irons well you are going to have to make adjustments. The key factor here is that with an iron the ball is on the ground (if you’re on a par 3 and can use a tee you should still tee it up low enough to simulate a very good lie in the fairway) while the driver is teed about halfway above the top of the face of the driver, a good inch and a half off the ground.

Lesson of the Week: Frank Flynn

By J | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Frank came all the way from Ireland (not specifically for this lesson but that sounds good) and has adapted a swing for his usual windy links course. Frank is an excellent player (a 1 handicap) and as you will see has an excellent swing with wonderful impact alignments. The first thing I noticed about his swing (other than how good it was) was how much he closed his entire setup, aiming his feet, hips and shoulders well to the right.

Lesson of the Week: Jack Ledonne

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

I’ve been encouraged by some members to do more lesson videos with middle to higher handicap players. Jack is 65 years old and over the last few years his game has deteriorated to the point where his swing feels short and stiff with no power and the ball going all over the place. Jack is particularly inflexible, so I know that if I can get his swing some freedom he can lengthen it a bit and get it coming down less steep.

Online Students: Chip Zabatta

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Chip is lucky enough to be a member at Winged Foot, which is where he met another long -time website member and online lesson taker John Lamendola. John has done an amazing job rearranging his swing, and suggested to Chip that he send me a swing. In the video, you will see that Chip exhibits some common swing patterns that compromise his ability to square his club face consistently and compress his irons.

Swing Analysis: Tony Finau

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

This is a great golf swing. Finau is a strong, rangy guy at 6’ 4” and 200 lbs., and he has come up with a simple, compact move that produces oodles of power. There just isn’t a whole lot going on here you might have a problem with other than the fact that the shaft is a hair under plane in the takeaway, but he opens the face and gets the club up on plane at left arm parallel so nicely that when that’s just about all the swing he needs to hit the ball a mile there’s not much that is going to go significantly wrong.
