Brandel is Off The Charts

Chamblee is off the charts.  I have to think his diatribes are calculated to foment controversy.  I mean seriously; what basis does he have for not calling Tiger the greatest player if he wins 19 majors?  What, you don’t like Tiger?  You don’t like that he dumped Butch?  You don’t like that he screwed everything in sight and humiliated his wife and children?  You know what?  You’re not alone.  Personally I don’t think those are good reasons to keep him behind Jack in the theoretical “Greatest Player Ever” sweepstakes.  But to express the opinion that Tiger’s chosen instructor (remember, players volunteer for instruction) can’t possible possess any information that could be helpful to Tiger is incredibly insulting not only to Foley, but even more to Tiger, because he’s the guy who chose the supposedly useless Foley.  It’s fairly obvious that when it comes to analyzing golf swings and commenting on golf swing mechanics Chamblee is out of his element.  He was a good player, but he does not understand swing mechanics because he doesn’t want to.  He wants to believe that “fundamentals” and Harvey Penick are all you’ll ever really need to succeed at golf.  He hates “The Golfing Machine” because when people use the terminology he doesn’t know what it is or understand what it means. Oh yeah, I almost forgot…I caught the end of some Golf Channel Year in Review special and there’s Brandel talking about Tiger’s “Dark Inertia”.  I could tell that he thought he had something special here when he repeated it in the next 60 seconds.  What?  Where the hell did you come up with that one? “Dark inertia”.  I don’t believe I’ve ever heard that phrase.  Are you kidding me?  He’s kicking Johnny’s ass in the “most annoying golf announcer” contest.
