Dustin Johnson is the best player in the world right now without question. There is no one else with his firepower who is as good from 100 yards and in, and when you average over 315 yards off the tee and hit the ball fairly straight that means a lot of birdies are going to be on the card. Here we have a nice face on and down the line view courtesy of the boys at TaylorMade where we can see how DJ uses his freakishly athletic body to do things with his golf swing that others just aren’t capable of. For example, DJ’s hip depth and right arm position heading into impact are right out of Hogan, but with an extra 70 pounds and 7 inches of height. I look at DJ’s quirky takeaway and left wrist position at the top, but instead of being detrimental to his game he works them perfectly into his own unique technique, which, of course, he couldn’t begin to explain to anyone, nor would he care to. He also has the perfect attitude for such a crazy game and could be said to be the Fred Couples of his generation, although probably better.
