Brett is a young professional trying to play for a living who has been working with me for a few months. He is a good player but understands he needs to improve his ball striking to have a chance when the tour qualifiers come up. Brett would like to improve his sequencing as he dislikes the forward lean of his upper body in transition. In this video I note that Brett’s set up is off center to the right, which may have a lot to do with his eventual forward head movement. I suggest that he continue to quiet his trigger by keeping his grip pressure more consistent and eliminating at least some of his forward press, and we work on hitting punch shots as this gives him a smaller swing with which to deal with multiple items of focus. The punch shot is a form shot in which the idea is to hit the ball as low as possible with a swing that moves from P3 to P8 and uses a forward ball position with a narrower than normal stance. Brett loved the look of the bottom of his punch shot swing from down the line, and when I manually kept his head back everything looked better from face on as well.
