I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the participants and especially the subscribers to WayneD.com. You don’t know it, but you a big part of what has encouraged me to continue to strive to understand the swing and to come up with better ways to get you to improve. You are also instrumental in keeping me playing and practicing, which makes sense because I have always believed that to truly know what you are talking about when it comes to utilizing a golf swing as opposed to theorizing about one you must not only care about it but you must do it and keep score. Theories tend to go out the window when your heart rate doubles on the first tee and there is out of bounds left and bushes right. You never know if what you are practicing works until you put some heat on it. I know this first hand as my stroke average this year is hovering around 75, but if you catch me at any moment other than when I’m in the middle of a bad round I will tell you that I am “working on it” and am “getting there”. But isn’t that the point? We are all working on it, and since no one is really “there” (well, since the decline of Tiger), then we are all “getting there”. I confess that it has crossed my mind several times when I am over par and not hitting it any good at all that I might enjoy doing other things and that it wouldn’t be such a bad idea if I would just give it up and stop competing. But a few IPA’s and a night’s sleep will always reboot me and you will find me either standing in front of a mirror during my morning workout coming up with new ideas to try on the range, or sneaking in a few shots between lessons, at lunch, or at the end of the day. I feel as though I owe it to all of you who use the site to struggle along with you and to report in on my results, although I probably don’t write as much as I should. My core belief is that if Hogan could figure out how to keep hitting the ball great with a broken body then I don’t see why I can’t figure out how to do it as well, especially since I have the chance to practice more now that I am two years removed from my last back surgery. I know that I must figure out a swing that will put less stress on my back, otherwise my performance level will remain poor and my swing will never look or function the way I want it to. I still feel like I have some good golf left in me, even though the past 6 years don’t indicate that. But my knowledge of the game is increasing all the time, and I feel like I have a chance to improve, and as I continue to strive for that I know I can continue to provide you with interesting and helpful content. Every teacher has his or her preferences as far as information and the ways to convey it, and I feel that I have raised my level as I have worked on the site. So, to all of you who read this, keep banging away! My best wishes go out to you, your families and your friends, and I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving.
