Zachary is a young (mid-late 20’s) PGA Professional from the Pittsburgh area who has been working with me for a little over a year. He plays regularly in his section events and is very interested in improving his swing and his performance with the end goal of being a high level club pro player, which would mean contending in his section championship and qualifying for the PGA Professional Championship (formerly known as the Club Pro Championship). Zach has what one might consider the perfect build for golf, that being fairly tall, lean and strong. He has put up some decent finishes even as he has struggled with some of the swing issues you see here, and he has also to do some work on his putting and short game. In other words, Zach is trying to improve, which is what everyone who ventures to this website is doing. This video gives another example of how stubborn swing patterns can be to change, and we spend most of our two hours together trying to isolate Zach’s transition move and get it to stop pulling behind him and then coming out and over. This one is particularly tough as Zach tends to finish his backswing by pulling his arms to the side and behind him, and even the stop and go drill from left arm parallel, which allows the player to focus exclusively on the up and back motion in transition, exhibits this flaw almost every time. By the end Zach was getting the hang of it, and we will keep an ongoing eye on it.
