TP&C: Len Mattiace Part 4

By Wayne | Tour Players and Celebrities

As you know, golf lessons are voluntary, and the player is never obligated to return for more instruction, nor is there any expectation that there will be any explanation (if the student does not return) as to why the choice was to discontinue the work. A teacher’s career is filled with students who start up with a lesson or two, then disappear for reasons unknown. When it comes to the highest level of player there has to be some measure of success or at least the belief that things are moving in the right direction in order for the player to continue working on what the particular teacher is prescribing. After the 2013 season Lenny secured fully exempt status on the Web.Com Tour, finishing 58th on the money list, but had a chance to make the PGA Tour with a good finish in the last 3 tournaments of the year. It didn’t happen that way, so I really didn’t know what to expect as far as continuing our work together. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised when Lenny told me that if he had it to do over again he would have made time to see me more often during the season, and that he wanted to get together multiple times this winter prior to the start of the season in February. I ventured down to Florida to visit my father over Halloween, and Lenny and I were able to get together at a beautiful course call The Fox Club just north of Stuart. We spent about 6 hours on the range, and the video here summarizes what we worked on. Afterwards Lenny reported in that he was striking the ball well, and he flew down to Mexico to successfully 4 spot for the Mayacoba event. He played quite well for 65 holes before finishing poorly, but all in all things are on the upward tick.
