I’ve been trying to figure out why I consistently lean into the front of my left foot in transition, a move which I believe throws off my sequence and eventually is one of the causes of my throw release and forward exit. I am now focusing on the lifting of my hands and arms from P3 to P4 while I straighten my right knee, which, along with a bit too much rightward movement of my upper body in the backswing, leads to the move I hate. In this video you can see my left arm looks more horizontal at P4, which gives it a deeper, more Hogan-like look. I have decided that it is OK for me to have the clubhead slightly under plane at P2 as long as the face is opening and my right arm is flaring out while retaining space from my right side. If I keep loading the right side of my pelvis deeper into transition I can keep my right cheek on the tush line when I change direction, and the combination of things allows me to rotate my hips from a deeper position and move my weight more toward the middle of the left foot immediately instead of into the ball of the foot. At this point I am more able to externally rotate and adduct my right arm and shoulder, again the get the Hogan type right arm elbow driven movement that I am missing. When I lift and lean (even though it’s subtle) I can’t really get my right upper arm in front of me enough to be able to keep it bent longer through impact. The poor sequence also keeps me from pulling through the impact area with my left side, another important component to achieving a drive/hold release.
