Tyrell Hatton: Swing Analysis

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

You’ve got to love watching Tyrell Hatton play golf. It is so obvious that he feels the way we all feel when we are out on the links battling the game, the elements, our own thoughts, our unsure technique. Watching him win at Bay Hill made me feel like I shared his triumph, just like when Tiger won the Masters last year. He has an interesting swing, nothing like what I would prefer, as he gains no depth in his right hip and leans out toward the ball as he approaches the top of his swing. However, he has great right arm movement, nice wrist control, and plays a left to right shot almost exclusively, which you might expect since his arms are so much in front of him throughout the swing. He is not what you would call a “bomber”, and his ball speed (around 170) is much like most of the average hitters on Tour. But when you optimize the driver for launch and spin 170 can get you out there over 300 yards consistently, and anybody can win doing that if they have a good week accuracy wise.
