I have a question for you: Do you track your ball-striking stats either manually or with an app? If your answer to this question is “no” and you’re serious about lowering your scores you should consider changing that approach. Now think about these two questions: How many greens in regulation do you hit on average? When you miss the green how often do you get up and down for par? Even if you’re one of the best ball-strikers on the planet hitting approximately 75% of your greens in regulation you’ll still have to get up and down every fourth hole. If you hit less greens than that you’ll quickly start to realize that having a rock-solid short game makes all the difference in the world. In this video I head outdoors to demonstrate the “Leading Edge” and the “Use the Bounce” pitching techniques. These are the go-to shots of touring pros when they miss the green and are not in a bunker or in a lie that requires some type of specialty shot. Mastering both pitching techniques is essential to scoring well when you miss the green. In my playing career my ball striking was often saved by my short game. The guys I played against will testify to that.
More short game techniques to come including bunker, flop and chipping.
