Lesson of the Week: Payne McEntee- Many Factors Contribute to Overly Outward Hand Path

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Payne is an accomplished junior who came to me after his former coach changed locations. The first time I saw Payne we worked on only wedges, but even in that shorter swing I took note of the outward loop in his transition. When we looked at it on video it was obvious to him what was going on, and I was hoping that by just pointing it out he could change it. Every now and then a player will do that, change immediately, and usually the player will be young and just hearing the information for the first time. But…

Lesson of the Week: Jordan Schwartz and the Posture Pod

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

We are used to seeing pretty good swings in these lesson videos, but as you can see I teach plenty of people who struggle mightily with the essential items needed to swing decently, and yet are out there practicing and trying to incorporate what would seem to be basic and simple to more accomplished players. Whether it is lack of athletic awareness or just a lack of ability doesn’t really matter: it is my job to find ways for such players to first understand the concepts behind swinging the club correctly and then to get them to execute the movements,…

Lesson of the Week: Jim Heerwagen

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Jim was visiting the DC area from California and had been a member of the website for some time so he decided to pay a visit. He had recently been to a golf school where he reported that he had worked mostly on tempo and balance. I found that to be interesting as it turned out that we wound up working on the very same things, as you will see in the video.   The first thing I noticed in watching Jim hit some full shots was how slow his swing looked. We talked a bit about what he had…

Online Students: Stephen O’Neill

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Stephen has an excellent looking swing that could really use the compression movement in backswing to add power and to bring the hands to impact closer to the body, which would help make the squaring of the clubface less problematical than with his high approach. If you look at Stephen’s upper trunk turn in the backswing it becomes apparent that there is room for more coiling of the upper body as the swing heads to the top. In order to get this increased trunk rotation and not lose the brace in the right leg Stephen needs to push the right…

Student Lesson: Mark Long

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Mark has a ton of experience with great players as he has been a Tour caddy for over 20 years. He has seen them all and been right next to most of them, but as you can see his swing does not reflect what he knows he would like to do. The big problem areas have been the same for years: his backswing gets vertical and lifted, while his downswing gets majorly steep and exits way out to the right. I had a feeling that the stuff I was working on and teaching in my day to day lessons and…
