Kyle Stanley is easily one of the best ball strikers in the world. If you look at his stats over the last 5 years he is rarely out of the top 10 in strokes gaining driving and strokes gained on approach shots, and is always high up in greens in regulation. He is having a banner year and with his victory at the brutally tough TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms he moved up to 13th in the Fed Ex Cup standings. This is a huge turnaround from some very lean years, which must have been caused either by injuries (I’m not sure about that) or by his disastrous statistics when it comes to putting and short game. He has improved somewhat in both categories, but it is not surprising that he won on one of the most difficult courses the Tour plays in a non-major. Stanley certainly has an interesting move, taking his arms well out in front of him and leaning out toward the ball in the backswing, then dropping his hands slightly from the top from a laid off position while maintaining his hip depth and approaching with a bowed down left wrist. Whatever it is that he is doing he does it as well or better than anyone with a more conventional swing, which just goes to show you (again) that there are many ways to swing a golf club and get excellent results.
